Re: Can't find NAS/Workgroup and restarts using shortcuts
Hi guys,
thanks for all the input here. We are currently looking into this with our devs. I don't have more information at this point but as soon as i do i will update this here. Can you please confirm on your side that if you only have the NAS and the Mini on - can you browse the network or not? And on which previous firmware were you on where it still worked? I assume you upgraded to the newest r5440 which is also a newer SDK so this might indeed have been disabled without knowing.
Anyways you might be able to switch on the master browser feature on your nas. You can also try to enable netbios on your router or even your nas. Usually if stations are not broadcasted this is either due to the inability of the router to talk with cross-platform machines and can usually be improved by enabling netbios. It shouldn't be dependend on the pc being turned on. In any case if you don't 'see' the NAS in your network you still should be able to access it via direct ip shortcuts under FILES MANAGER -> NETWORK -> My_Shortcuts.
Of course you can also try using NFS with your NAS which makes more sense since both devices (nas + mini) are Linux based and NFS has better performance than Samba.
If this all doesn't work you still might have a faulty unit and than you can claim your warranty and send it in.
Best greards,

Re: Can't find NAS/Workgroup and restarts using shortcuts
Ill try to awnser all questions in your reply:
Can you please confirm on your side that if you only have the NAS and the Mini on - can you browse the network or not? No i Can't
And on which previous firmware were you on where it still worked? I assume you upgraded to the newest r5440 which is also a newer SDK so this might indeed have been disabled without knowing. Yes i'm now running r5440. Weird thing is it has lost the fucntion of seeing the Workgroup after a full update which also resets to factory defaults. And after that I treid every option on de Mini2 and 3 other firmwares. And it almost looks that it lost its ability for acting as a Local Master Browser, which cant be reversed with an older firmware. If that make sense... So it did work on r5440 after usb upgrading... but not after a full wipe.
Anyways you might be able to switch on the master browser feature on your nas. You can also try to enable netbios on your router or even your nas. Usually if stations are not broadcasted this is either due to the inability of the router to talk with cross-platform machines and can usually be improved by enabling netbios I'll have to look in to that, but it would be weird that i have to change that suddently. I never played with Netbios on router or NAS so ill have to find that.
In any case if you don't 'see' the NAS in your network you still should be able to access it via direct ip shortcuts under FILES MANAGER -> NETWORK -> My_Shortcuts. True, that works always
Of course you can also try using NFS with your NAS which makes more sense since both devices (nas + mini) are Linux based and NFS has better performance than Samba. I have thought of that, but if I havent have to run another service running on my NAS the better. And werent there som issues with NFS? With playing some files? Or are they sorted out? I Mean I can play 16gb 1080p rips without stutter, so if I can, I would keep using Samba only.

Re: Can't find NAS/Workgroup and restarts using shortcuts
Update:
Ok I treid a lot of options so here it goes:
Netbios: I can only find options on my Dlink 655 router for this. But im not so technical. I dint understand the WINS server part... so I treid "learn settings from WAN" I got this message: "WINS/NetBIOS may not operate in this mode given your Internet connection settings." I tried to use it anyway, but Wokrgroup didnt popupt. So for me this was a "no go".
Local Master Browser: On my NAS (Synology 410J DSM 3.2) This was a bit frustrating... It didnt seem to work, but i treid it many times.. and if a wait 15 minutes or so... it always seems to work. So this would be a solution, but like i said, i do want my NAS to get in a sleep mode... which wont happen if this is turned on.
NFS: Its a lot of work to get this working (which was also bit to technical for me), So i skipped it. I got a slow NAS so every proces i can disable is better for me.
UPNP/DNLA: I dont know how it happend, but that seem to work all the time now. but it isnt as stable as Samba for me...
Final thoughts I still cant get a clue how this all happend. But it seems if the ACRyan can be a Local Browser Master it would fix it for me. But like i said it worked in the pass... only thing i dd was a full update on the acryan.

The 15 minute delay is probably about right, IIRC the default time for a Windows browser master to announce it's presence is every 15 minutes, probably same for the NAS. Ray Von

We cannot change anything about this. If you activate the master browser option in your NAS and it works i would recommend you to have it 'on'. If your NAS doesn't go into sleep mode than it's unfortunate but there's nothing i can do about it. Alternative is NFS or UPnP. let me know if you need further help and sorry for the inconveniences. best regards,

Re: Can't find NAS/Workgroup and restarts using shortcuts
No it wasnt very clear for my sorry. There were some conflcited statements in here and in direct email contact.
Its still weird it worked before and now it doesnt.
But you can conclued for sure that I dont have a faulty unit? Then I wont send it back.
Do you think Local Master Browser will be added in the firmware?

Do you think Local Master Browser will be added in the firmware? Hi, sorry i have forgot to mention that i also asked our developers about this and there will be nothing we will tweak or change about this. So i still would recommend you to use NFS even it takes you a bit of reading through your NAS manual. In the end this works faster and more stable than SAMBA. Iam really sorry that i cannot give you another solution and i also do not think it's the hardware. In the beginning thought it might be a faulty network interface but it's pretty clear that it's the NAS in combination with player/samba. Hope you try the NFS option which is really better, i personally only use NFS. Let us know if you need help setting it up. br,

Re: Can't find NAS/Workgroup and restarts using shortcuts
I have the same problem, when I browse my network, sometimes it works, but most times I don't see the Workgroup.
When I use the shortcut to my computer the acryan reboots after the message logon succesfull...
I'm very dissapointed...
What can we do to solve this problem? I have linux knowledge, so doing things thrue the telnet interface is no problem...
