Post Re: [HOW-TO] Install Transmission on newer SDK / Firmware
PS4: I decided to format my hard and reset my device.. now I have two transmission clients running.. one from this thread and one coming with the device itself..

What is strange is that I cannot open torrent files from my hard drive and I can only open a limited number of torrents with URLs.. so far only ones from the pirate bay.. I cannot open private tracker's torrents so far.

Arne,

When trying to follow your steps I end up not finding the 'volumes' folder in /tmp/hdd..

I only have the following:

dvdvr
fat32
livepause
root

Can you advise me what to do?

I am using POHD2
having the latest firmware
using wired connection (DHCP enabled)
Transmission is constantly off when I try to start it from within the Setup/Network/Transmission dialog..

Note: I managed to find the script I copied in '/tmp/usbmounts/sdb1/trans1.sh', but that didn't help much as obviously the script is using folders pointing to your original paths..

PS: It seems the script worked from that location after all.. at first I made the mistake going in the folder and trying to run 'trans1.sh' directly.. once I used '/tmp/usbmounts/sdb1/trans1.sh' it worked..

PS2: Although I can access Transmission from my browser the setup is still showing it as not running.. could it be due to not yet starting a torrent? (I am still trying to make out how to add the task..)

PS3: Transmission is still showing as 'off' in the setup area, clicking open from the browser config of transmission results in no action at all and when I try to directly open the torrent file from my internal HDD using the file manager I am told that the BT client is not running.

First of all this is the HD Forum section. The HD2 has already a built-in Transmission Client so there's no need to install it again.
For it to work you need an internal HDD which was formatted in the Player.

So for you now to get it work:
1. safe-mode reflash the firmware r5440
2. format the HDD via SETUP -> SYSTEM -> FORMAT
3. after the reboot goto SETUP -> NETWORK -> Transmission and switch it on
4. connect to the web interface and add your torrents.

cheers,

I know Arne, but having in mind Transmission is not starting I decided it is something like the YAMJ.. having a stub call, but not implemented.. so I followed the guide..

Is Safe-Mode reflash the same as 'reflash using the power button'? And if Yes, does that mean there are differences between it and the Setup upgrade?

If I do the reflash.. would it remove the new version of Transmission? And.. do you point out that would be the solution for my problems adding arbitrary torrent to the file?

(Thanks for your help)

If you are using safe-mode (yes the power button method ;)) the system will be 'cleaned' and therefore the previously installed version will be removed. The setup menu upgrade method will leave your settings and just 'update' the needed system files. This is why you should try a safe-reflash, reformat and 'retry' transmission.

I would suggest to try one torrent file at a time and by the way you cannot add them via files manager here. You really need to do it via the web interface from transmission.

Let me know if a clean reset solves this issue for you.

br,

br,

Will drop a note here tonight when I try the safe re-flash, Yes.

(I am adding the torrents from the web interface.. when mentioning I cannot open torrents from my HD I mean, when I select the browse field in the web interface and browse for torrent files from there.. not that I somehow try to copy them to the player..)

Post Re: [HOW-TO] Install Transmission on newer SDK / Firmware
Follow-Up: After safe-mode re-flashing and formating I reached the following results/conclusions:

- I no longer have two transmission clients (saving some CPU resources I guess as the second one used to run all the time)
- I still cannot add most of the torrent files I tried (neither using the browse button to get files from my computer or by entering the URL to the given torrents)
- Transmission tends to freeze the unit quite often (the remote control power button works, but that is pretty much all.. I cannot navigate the unit, I cannot open the setup page from the button labeled 'Setup')
- One of the downloaded files (before the re-flash) was inaccessible so I could not save it to my PC (it passed the check after finishing download and I managed to open it from the unit itself the night before)
- One of the files was 99% complete (after re-check from Transmission), I downloaded it to 100% again and after a new re-check the downloaded size was determined to be 98%.. this means something is very wrong with the client.. you cannot loose information like that..

My main conclusion is that the Transmission client is not working.. at least not in any usable way.. it is highly enthusiastic.. not suitable for a consumer grade product. I will have to download from my machines and then transfer to my POHD2. (If I knew that beforehand it would be a deal breaker.. I would not buy the two units I bought..)

and some unrelated stuff:
- after the re-flash (no torrents running) I experienced one unit freeze while listening to one shoutcast radio
- the day before I saw a unit restart itself (no 'Unit is shutting down' message.. just flick and the unit is loading again) two or three times while trying to browse a friend's facebook (it was another unit bought for friends.. hope there are no much more hidden bugs that will discredit my choice of player in their eyes..)

PS: @Arne - please do not be fooled by my negative message. I appreciate your intention and attempts to help me. I just think some of the bits are not really ready to be included in the FW.

Hi,

no problem but please make sure to post in correct topic as this is about a testing opportunity for the hd1 of transmission.
Anyways i have raised the issues to our devs as well - not much more we can do at the moment.

best regards,
