It seems that FreeNFS is not working anymore with the r5440 firmware.
This seems to be because when you create a new NFS connection you are not allowed to only add "\" as the NFS folder.

This works ok with v7.0.21.r4312 but not with v7.4.x.r5440.

I use FreeNFS because it is a fast, hassle free NFS v3 server (and it allows junctions from different partitions which - as far as I know - are not allowed by the MS NFS server).

Hi,

Realtek SDK has a bug here with WinNFS Servers such as freenfs or hanewin.
correct mount would be:
mount -o nolock -t nfs 192.168.0.50:/c/nfstest /tmp/nfs/mnt

player currently mounts:
mount -o nolock -t nfs 192.168.0.50:/c/nfstest/ /tmp/nfs/mnt

NOTE: the extra '/' seems to give the 'No such File or Directory found' error.

So you could basically manually mount it via telnet and add this to start script. I cannot say when this will be fixed since we have to wait for realtek to do this apparently :(
If you need closer instructions on how to set it up i'm glad to provide a how-to for that..

cheers,

Hi Arne,

Thank you. I would appreciate if you could provide me with a how-to for the mount and start-up script to workaround this issue.

Best regards,

Attila

Rehi,

tested this again on all our devices with our current firmware and the mounts work here. Iam using hanewin nfs and added to the exports file:
c:\Files -public -readonly
c:\Files\media -public -name:media

i than check the mini and goto Files Manager -> NFS -> press 'menu' and add my ip and the shared folder i.e. '/media'
Note that your firewall has to be configured properly or disable it to test it.
In a previous version i remember there was a bug with win nfs servers which i now don't have here. I can login just normal and playback stuff.

Can you check again disabling firewall and rechecking your exports?
You can manually mount it as well and put it to startup script. I will try to put it up by the end of the day.

best regards,

Hi

Am I right and are the display settings (brightness, contrast etc) removed from the settings ?
Because of this, I cannot setup my blacks properly anymore in combination with my proj (old Optoma).
In the older firmware (4824) these setting were present and worked fine.

Regards...
Henk

Hello,

Just press the 'Menu' button while playing a video file. These settings are now there.

Is there any kind of ETA, at least vague one, for when the next firmware is expectet to pop?
I may be slightly wrong on this but not by much surely, r5440 is the worst piece of software i have seen on a retail machine of any kind. The bugs and evasive maneuvers i have to do to work around them are getting on my nerves already.

Out of curiosity, what other media player you have tested and found better in that regard? Why aren't you using those players anymore? Based on my own experience every player seem to have their own gripes and have their own dissatisfied customers.

I'm happy with the current firmware, but still i'm waiting for a new release.

Most important issues for me:
- the sound through the center-speaker (there is an elsewhere in this topic specified problem with the pass-thru where an original channel is missing)
- the subtitle-bugs (no subtitles-message if there are too many subs in the folder, and if you turn subs off, the overall-setting is turned of too. Therefor it is necessary to go to settings and turn the subtitles on)
- after deleting a file there is a message "delete ok" which is completely redundant
- when deleting a file it would be great if corresponding .srt's are also deleted
- possibility to rename shortcuts

I'm patient, but hoping for a quick (beta-)release :)

Netgear Neo, couple of Popcorn Hour and WDTV. The point is you don't need to bring others HW into comparison. It's enough to compare it with itself a couple or more FW revisions ago.
And you need to ponder the critical nature of the bugs too. It's one thing for the jukebox not to function proper, the device to restart every time and again or for the video to start in fast forward mode out of the blue. Albeit annoying this is the kind of stuff you can live with up to a point. But when you don't have proper subtitles and you can't play 1080p stuff anymore when GUI 2.0 comes into play that takes "bugs" to a whole different level. Thats a showstopper, and goes through the bread and butter for this kind of device, if it can't do this kind of stuff it means it's broken. And I have a broken device under my tv for 3 months now.
One of the main reasons I have a mini and not any other streamer under tv is because ALL reviews while presenting MINI to various degrees of goodness, all praised the speed at whitch FW are released and HENCE problems resolved. In this particular case it's absolutely not the case.

I have to agree it takes a bit long before a new beta firmware comes out.
"We are working on it" basically doesn't cut the cheese. If a final firmware comes out with newly introduced bugs, there should be an update within reasonable time (some weeks) and not three months. We all know the HD mini is a great piece of hardware, but it is basically the firmware and user-experience that determines whether the HD mini is a good product or not.

So please let us know when we can expect a new beta/final firmware
