Post PlayonHD switches itself off & disconnects form the network.
Hay Guys. I Have a bit of a problem. I bought the Playon HD Essential with the wireless dongle and leave it on to copy my movies, pictures, etc to it. But every few minutes it switches itself off. Then I have to go switch it on again AND connect the wireless again before I can copy to it. Any idea on how to fix that seeing that there is no new firmware to fix the bugs?

The Essential has been designed as a stand-alone device, initially without networking capabilities at all. Later the WiFi option has been added to allow some simple internet browsing, but not for massive file transfers.
Wireless networking often is problematic due to interference by neighboring networks. Please check that your WiFI channel is not used by neighboring network and if possible select a channel that is at least two channels removed from your neighbours.

But why does it keep on switching itself off? There will be no problem if it stays on.

Hello Thys,

This works in general. You could check your router options, if you for instance use 5Ghz Bandwidth, this can happen as our USB-dongles only support 2.4Ghz. Try to force this option in your router to 2.4Ghz. If you still have disconnection issues. Then try to switch the wireless protocol that you router is using. Switch between the supported protocols -> WPA, WPA2, WPA2-PSK, WPA2-AES/TKIP and select a password to go with the protocol.

You can do this by logging into your router from your PC/MAC and then selecting 'Wireless' from the router options. Remember to reboot the Playon!HD Essential + Router every time you have made these changes.

Br,

Dude, I'm no novice when it comes to wireless networking or any networking for that matter. It is what I do for a living. And that is not what I asked. My question is: Why does the PlayonHD switch itself off?? Forget about the dongle and the wireless for second. The Player swithed itself OFF? Why??

Ok,

I suspected/understood the reboots/switching off would to be part of the first post I made. Still good to remember that for wireless networking reference with our dongle/player.

Have you also formatted the internal hard drive initially connected to the TV? If you have not done this, please do this from 'Setup>System>Format' Default password '0000' if asked. If you have done this then flash the latest firmware again using the following method. You could be missing the 'bin.wifi.zip' file that is installed on your internal hard drive, if you have formatted the internal hard drive after the flash of r1964.

You can download firmware from here -> http://www.acryan.com/downloads/PV73500 ... ropean.zip

Install using this method:

Safe-Mode method (*recommended!):
1. Download and extract the install.img + bin.wifi.zip file into the root folder of a USB-stick. Make sure the USB-stick is formatted to FAT32.
2. Insert the USB-stick to your player.
3. Shutdown the player.
4. Press and hold down the power button in front of the player for 15 seconds.
5. Your player will restart and install the new firmware.

Please ensure you have done the above. If you still are getting these issues. Then reply back and explain in details what you have done, and if possible, more details exactly what you are doing or what is happening when the player switches off/reboots.

Thanks
