[HOW-TO] Install Transmission on newer SDK / Firmware
Hello Playon owners,
due to some requests from users i'd like to give you a short how-to including a script that will install transmission on your devices. NOTE: This is for testing purposes. The transmission is very heavy for the box in terms of resources etc. so there might be stability issues. You can always remove the script of course and reflash for example to original state of the firmware.
1. extract the.rar file attached to this post onto the HDD of your playon (in the root). trans1.sh is the script which you should have in the root folder of the HDD than.
2. telnet into your player (with putty, or windows telnet client - google for a how-to telnet)
3. once logged in just call the script by entering '/tmp/hdd/volumes/HDD1/trans1.sh' <- in some cases you need to make the file executable by entering 'chmod +x /tmp/hdd/volumes/HDD1.trans1.sh'
4. transmission will now be installed and automatically started on boot. The Standard Port in this case is 8080 so to access the transmission web management enter the ip address of your player + port in your favorite browser on your pc/laptop/phone - i.e. 192.168.0.20:8080
5. you can add torrents here and download them. Please note that due to the lower memory of the HD1 this will work differently depending on how you use the player. Try to download a torrent at once and not 10.
As mentioned above this is for testing purposes and will most likely render the unit instable in some cases. Anyways feel free to try and/or improve the script.
Any suggestions / problems found please let me know.

Can you check what kind of model you have? DA, DD, C+ ? You can find that under SETUP -> MISC -> Versioninformation Might be that older chipsets give bad results here. I tested this a bit on hd1 and got it working without errors like that except that the box freezes from time to time due to the high load i assume. thanks & br,

hmmz, arne, we can't speak dutch here can we? i got some errors with corrupt files/folders when i connected it to the usb host, is it possible to format all,.. because i think there are a lot of files that will be left on the POHD, and on the hard disk, is it possible to make a complete format of the POHD as well for the harddisk p.s. i tried to format it manual, by removing partitions and formatting as one big NTFS partition, but still,.. the POHD got my files back! (low level formatting the hdd now , but can i format the files on POHD internal memory completely or it all stored on the ext3 partition made on the hdd?) voor zij die het verstaan: groetjes uit friesland dan maar

See the firmware topics for a how-to on that. I personally would never low-level format a HDD unless you really need it. It will shorten the life-time of your drive and is meant for emergencies. But no need to worry it's not gonna break. So if you did already all you have to do is a safe-flash again and the unit is reset. best regards,

Re: [HOW-TO] Install Transmission on newer SDK / Firmware
look what i found: umount -a chkntfs /dev/scsi/host0/bus0/target0/lun0/part1 -f -a reboot afterwards with "reboot" commando (since mount -a) didn't satisfy me,.. if you use this, all failed torrents will be fixed, windows doesn't got problems with it, but the POHD will tremble upon failed writes, and leave torrents failed... but with chkntfs u can check hdd and restore lost bits and broken data! YAY! is it possible to auto-integrate to do this check on reboot????

hmmz, then u need a corrupt data first but it works a lot faster then checking in windows,.. like there is already a errorlog with stored corrupted files, but there is no autofix for it, no ntfsfix. error checking in windows didn't do much, even while it took a lot longer! mostly i got the files staying corrupted or got lost while copying. hope this info helps

Re: [HOW-TO] Install Transmission on newer SDK / Firmware
Arne,
When trying to follow your steps I end up not finding the 'volumes' folder in /tmp/hdd..
I only have the following:
dvdvr fat32 livepause root
Can you advise me what to do?
I am using POHD2 having the latest firmware using wired connection (DHCP enabled) Transmission is constantly off when I try to start it from within the Setup/Network/Transmission dialog..
Note: I managed to find the script I copied in '/tmp/usbmounts/sdb1/trans1.sh', but that didn't help much as obviously the script is using folders pointing to your original paths..
PS: It seems the script worked from that location after all.. at first I made the mistake going in the folder and trying to run 'trans1.sh' directly.. once I used '/tmp/usbmounts/sdb1/trans1.sh' it worked..
PS2: Although I can access Transmission from my browser the setup is still showing it as not running.. could it be due to not yet starting a torrent? (I am still trying to make out how to add the task..)
PS3: Transmission is still showing as 'off' in the setup area, clicking open from the browser config of transmission results in no action at all and when I try to directly open the torrent file from my internal HDD using the file manager I am told that the BT client is not running.
