Post Support for 10bit MKV encoding?
Hi,

I am one of the long user of the AC Ryan player PlayOnHD mini

the machine is working pretty good esp with the new firmware that uses the GUI 2.0

but this problem i think some of us might find it annoying.

lately some of the anime video subbers are using 10 bit encoding for the video instead of the usual 8 bit format saying that it somehow save file space but when the video is being playback it ended up the whole video have artifacts and blocking patches as shown in the picture where her red hair is shown

Image

will the kind souls from AC Ryan be able to help with this problem?

Thanks
Regards

Hi,

thanks for the input. As for now there is no plans implementing this in any way. We can forward this to our developers to check if there is anything we can do.
If possible could you post us the mediainfo from one of the files and/or send us a small sample maybe? You can use a service like http://www.wetransfer.com to send it directly to my mail adress for example.

Ok thanks for the quick reply

the media file in question is now sent to you as requested.

if you try play it on the media player, you can see the blocky patches in almost all the scenes of the whole video, although the media player can still play the video without any lag or audio distortion. The discoloration and blocky patches is the annoying part.

if in case the wetransfer doesn't work you could download the media file using the link given below

http://www.animetake.com/shakugan-no-sh ... episode-1/

i tried both subbed version but both show the same result. At first i was thinking it was my laptop issue but when i re-download the video on the desktop, it gave me the same result.

would be glad if you could look into this matter and reply to me as soon as possible with the following email dragoon20005@hotmail.com

Thanks

Hello,

I got a similar file earlier today, and this is what I replied to this user in a email:

"I've tested/looked at the file you sent, and these kind of files are not supported on our Realtek players, but also does not give any video when you play it with our VEOLO sample that we have right now. The reason is the "Format settings, ReFrames : 16 frames". This is to much for our products hardware to buffer. These files are unfortunately not supported by any of our current products due to this particular settings.

Side note: I even tried to play this on my work laptop which has a I3-330M 2.13Ghz + 4GB DDR3 RAM + an Nvidia 512MB GFX and get similar artifacts. This is just to heavy for our players hardware to handle."

so i guessing it is hardware limitations of the players itself and cannot be solved by firmware alone.

guess that we have to voice the issue with the encoders.

thanks for the reply

Well yea that's basically it. I don't think this will be possible on the machine due to hardware limitations as you correctly noticed. I also personally don't really see the point to set such encoding settings. Maybe you can try to download from other sources and use other format.

The FLUXX media player proposed for release earlier this year will not be produced.

you have the complete press release and link to the specifications page of the new upcoming product VEOLO here: http://www.acryan.com/press/release/view/28/

best regards,

No it's not working like that. You will need to download the firmware from our site and than update it. At the moment it is 2.2 only and maybe in near future we upgrade to a newer android version.

best regards,
