Post External HD
Hi all,

First time poster here on this forum, so a big hi for that :D

This weekend i bought myself the ACRyan Playon! HD Mini2, but now i was wondering, is it possible to connect a external HD to the USB of the ACRyan, and then copy files on that external disk from my pc? Or do i have to connect the external HD on my pc for that?

Havn't bought a external HD yet, but if i have to connect it to my pc to be able to copy files to it, instead of being able to let it be connected to the ACRyan. Im thinking i rather buy a internal HD for my pc or server.
Tnx for the help in advance.

You can connect an external USB hard disk to your Mini 2. As some bus powered USB hard disk are problematic (the power supply of the Mini2 is but just sufficient), I recommend that you buy a hard drive with its own power supply.
You can attach the hard drive to your PC to copy your media and then connect to your Mini2 to play your media.
If you want to leave your hard drive connected to your PC, either internal or external, you will need a (wired) network connection between your PC and your Mini2 to play the media.

A USB drive connected to your Mini is accessible from your PC if you switch on the SAMBA/NAS option on your Mini. However, if you want to copy files from your PC to that hard disk, I recommend attaching it directly to your PC, because that makes the transfer speed at least 10 times faster than over your network.
