One thing I came across in Windows 7 is NFS is available but not turned on by default.
To turn on NFS in Windows 7 go to Control Panel and Programs and Features. In the left hand pane click "Turn Windows features on or off". Wait for it to load and scroll down to "Services for NFS".
I expanded the tree, there are only two options and I checked both.
Click okay and close Control Panel.
Try the PoHD network browsing to find you're shared Windows 7 folders.
Hope it works.
Take care.
A.V. Have you tried it ?? It Works not..because Win7 istalled only the client...but you have to start a Server for working Hi there. I have been double checking things. I can find the Windows shared folders from the POHD upnp menu. I cannot get to the folders with the NET option or the NFS. The POHD sees the workgroup name but login always fails. In windows 7 I started the Windows Media Centre and slected the folders to share. From the POHD the slected shared folders are visible but, as I said, only through the upnp menu. Windows Media Centre appears to start with Windows and you don't need to manually start it (after a reboot for example). One problem I am having is I cannot see the PS3 Media Server. I know it is running and I can sometimes get the TV to see it but that is hit and miss. The POHD will not see it at all. There is definitely something with Windows 7 networking that is throwing a spanner in the works. With Windows Vista all media servers were visible to the TV - I didn't have the POHD before I installed Win 7.

@ Alien sounds familiar *ggg* 1. Harro´s Tut is perfect..if you´ve ve done that, incl. the Registry entrys it should work BUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUT...there is the Windows Firewall.. especially for the PS3 Media Server you have to do something the Wrapper (it´s the Service) and the Java Things need Access..so, please do the Following: download this (freeVersion is enough) http://www.sphinx-soft.com/Vista/order.html (this is only a GUI for the Win7 Firewall, NOT a Firewall ) it will do much things for you, better as the manuel Methode with Ports, allow etc. pp after that, everything should be visible for the POHD

Did make a new account with all rights yesterday but that didn´t help, today could access my computer with my normal acount(admin) and the hd/folders shared to everyone. Mybe it worked yesterday to with out the login name/pass did not try that way then. removed the new playon acount from my computer.I can still se my folders-files on the POHD .

Re: [HOW TO] Share Folders on Windows 7
Hi All.
Just done something this morning that might be of use.
The Windows 7 firewall has two "zones" - Public and Private. In the firewall settings I turned off the private firewall - "Home or work (private) networks".
I have just tested it and I connect to my shared folders from the POHD via the NET option. I didn't use a password, just put in the path to the shared folder and save and connect. I can now browse the shared folder and subfolders.
All connections out to the internet go through a upnp router with its own firewall so I am not that bothered about turning off the windows firewall.
Hope that helps.
A.V.

Re: [HOW TO] Share Folders on Windows 7
Thank you for not reading my post ,3 posts above yours You need not turn off FW, install the Tool i´ve mentioned ...give Acces for some Clients, Apps etc. pp and everything should be fine....The Win Firewall blocks per Default everyting..and popped NOT up, every time a Program want Acces,so you have to know and to set manually access...the GUI Tool popped up EVERY Time ..and you will see, that many Services and svhost processes are blocked I used the Agnitum Outpost Security Suite before...same Problems..it has a problem with Win7, too....none of my Shares or PC´s are visible in spite of correct Settings. Under XP and Vista everything works fine...

Re: [HOW TO] Share Folders on Windows 7
no prob One thing... PC in WIN7 Homenetworkgroup is a bad idea, with NONE win7 "Devices"...it only works with other Win7 PC´s. So, if you´re in one, you can´t see other PC´s or POHD like in Vista or XP.You have to search for it via Explorer by name or IP ..very annoying... Just leave the Homenetworkgroup and you are in Normal Windows Workgroups..

Re: [HOW TO] Share Folders on Windows 7
There is a difference between sharing files using UPnP and network sharing. They use different protocols and software and they are not the same thing.
UPnP (Universal Plug and Play) is a protocol set up for connecting devices on a network for sharing media. It requires a UpnP server to be running on that device. When you create a share in Windows Media Center it starts a UPnP server. Twonky, Playon, PS3 media server, Tversity are all UPnP servers. The PlayOn!HD is the client. This server client relationship circumvents the Windows authentication/access control process by punching a hole through the firewall and contral layers using a UPnP port. You can still have some issues though if your router is not UPnP compliant. Plusses - easy, one step process to play media. Negatives - one way path for watching media. Not for copying. Has security issues outside of your enclosed network - say if you were to stream files over the internet to your mobile phone.
Network file sharing uses the built in network functions of Windows (or Apple, Linux, Netware, etc) to enable remote access of data over the network. The PlayOn!HD is using SMB protocols while Windows 7 is using File and printer Sharing (which is NetBios protocols). Plusses - can stream, copy, move and delete files in both directions based on security settings on each device. Negatives - requires proper setup of authentication protocols on both ends. Though the PlayOn!HD is set as no authentication by default so only the Windows 7 requires setting authentication correctly.
Then there is NFS now available on the PlayOn!HD but there is no native NFS functionality in Windows 7 - you need to install a NFS server. There is already a thread on NFS and how to do that.
