I personally don't use the Autoscan function when I'm home either. I prefer to use Shortcuts together with my own folders, this is just one way of using the player, if you are not happy to use it like this, then you don't. You can press 'Menu' to get a few different views, but also of the cost of resources just as you mentioned.
Br,
I didn't realise you have to/can tell the player to put songs and films in the folders they are in when in the File Manager.... if thats what you are saying ? Makes sense. I'll go back and check. One key plea remains if that works OK...remove those "Last music/ film loaded" sections......please ? What I mean is that I organize/sort my folders in the internal hard drive so they are in simple categories/folders. Then add shortcuts to all of these, and then when I enter them from 'Main menu>Shortcuts> I see then there as below, and when I enter these, I will have what I look for in the folders, and with this I can disable 'Autoscan' and also have the system responding quick. Movies>All movies in separate folders. Series>All series in separate folders. Documentaries>All documentaries in separate folders. Photos>All albums in separate folders. Music>All albums in separate folders. This sorting is naturally done easiest with mouse/keyboard so recommend to do this from your PC over the network to your Playon!HD. Connect to your Playon!HD by browsing the network environment or type in the IP address of your Playon! in Start>Run. We have requested to remove the 'Recently Added Music/Movies' from the main menu when you disable the 'Autoscan'. If you see content there if this is disabled? Then just use the 'Setup>System>Clear History' and this should be removed, but again, we have requested to remove these totally when not used by our developers. Br,

Mikael,
If I understand the subtext of what you are saying, then does it mean that improving the indexing (auto-scan) functions of the player are not high priority and that the "solution" for performance issues is to further reduce the visibility of the auto-scan feature in future releases? Certainly the "most recent" music and movie display on screen adds very little value and impacts badly on performance, so it could be turned off. But a decent indexing system, with good performance, is a key requirement of any media player which holds hundreds or thousands of albums and movies!
Having had an initial disappointment that the software would not recognise the Vorbis comments in my FLAC files like ID3 tags, I was prepared to re-rip my music as MP3s once I was able to index the tags by album, artist, date, genre etc., but if there is not going to be a massive improvement in the indexing capability and performance in future firmwares and soon, then I may well look elsewhere for a solution.

Hello Tony, No, I was just describing how I personally like to use the player at the moment, and probably always will This does not mean we will not improve or change the indexing, and I'm not saying we will either. At this point we have more plans in ironing out the issues that we can reproduce, more than adding features. Regarding the FLAC + tags support, we have already requested this directly to Realtek to support in the future, at this point we have no detailed answer from them if or when, but we also want to include this support to our players as this will just be more and more popular in the future as well. Re: [Official] Firmware_PV73100_v7.4.x.r5440
Fair enough. Makes sense to me. Thank you
I've done that but I also tried to drop folders into Movies but they don't show up on the PlayOn. There seems to be something fundamentally wrong with the Movie/Music Photo folders in that they don't seem to recognise first level folders but just show every file separately. If I drop a folder containing several films or albums somewhere else in Windows it would retain its folder description and when I do it on the PlayOn its shows up in Explorer on my PC but not on the Playon even after a reascan. Linking to shortcuts shows the high level folders and the sub folders beneath that. Odd
All very odd and would seem to point to a very basic problem with the whole GUI design IMO
Cheers Gary

I have the POHD connected to my non-HD television. Will the new GUI be visible/usable on a non-HD television?

 Re: [Official] Firmware_PV73100_v7.4.x.r5440
If it's connected by the composite lead (yellow socket / lead), almost definitely it will be unusable on a smaller CRT TV. The new GUI introduces smaller icons and text. I find it quite poor on composite on a 42" plasma, but it's good on component and HDMI at 1080 resolution. If your TV is HD Ready (720p or similar) it may be ok.
