One potenetial issue with subtitle setting?

1) Set Subtitle to ON in Setup -> Misc
2) During a movie, press the Subtitle button on the remote to bring up the subtitle menu and select OFF.
3) Now the setting of the subtitle in the Setup/Misc menu also switched to OFF, and thus you cannot select any subtitle when playing another movie.

I prefer that the setting in the Setup/Misc menu should not be overridden?

PS: I noticed that the position and size are also overridden after each changes, but this is less annoyed than the ON/OFF setting.

Hello,

Yes, this should not override, we have reported about the On/off issue. But when we test external .srt and put for instance 'Red' as color in the Misc menu, then it will be 'Red' when you start the movie + srt, but you are able to change.
Br,

Hi Mikael, thanks for the confirmation of the subtitle ON/OFF setting issue.
I must say that you guys have done an excellent job in boosting customer satisfaction.

I'm not sure if I posted my question / request to the right place. I also don't know if this has come up earlier. I did some research but I couldn't find anything... my research was not extensive, though.

So, I noticed that the Playon!HD Mini2 (and probably the Mini as well) doesn't display the PGS (or SUP) subtitles embedded in an MKV container. It recognizes, though, that the subtitles are there - they can even be selected - but nothing is showed during the video playback.

As you most likely know this subtitle format is normally used for Blu-ray movies. When the movie is in an m2ts (BDAV MPEG-2 Transport Stream) container or in a Blu-ray ISO then the Mini2 displays the subtitles without problem. Basically both containers contain the same video / audio streams and - what is more important in this case - the subtitles.

MKV is just yet another container format which stores the same data as the aforementioned two containers (apart from many other pieces of information MKV is capable to store). Now, why is it then, that when the movie is in an MKV container, the Mini2 does not display the PGS subtitles? I've read somewhere that PGS subtitles can't be stored in MKV, but either this information wasn't ever true or it's outdated, for the popular VLC media player has no problem displaying the PGS subtitles stored in MKV container. Recently, even the WDTV, a competitor's product, is capable to playback such subtitles when it's inside an MKV.

Is it possible to fix this issue? The m2ts and Blu-ray ISO containers are rigid and painful to work with. The ISO can't even be streamed over DLNA (UPnP). MKV, on the other hand, is superior to these formats. The only problem as of now is this issue with displaying the PGS subtitles, which makes the whole MKV format unusable (even though, as I mentioned, in general this container format is far better than any other).

The shortcut function is nice but we need something for jukebox files:

My Vision:
Main Menu *option to remove/reorder items
Jukebox
add shortcuts to various index files ability to give a user friendly label

New option to prompt to refresh index or not - manual method to be made available....

This would be 10x better with this functionality. And it seems everyone wants it so why isnt it there...

Completely agree. All the above + stability in network streaming, then we are in heaven :D

The firmware of the mini2 is getting better and better, my compliments, all seems to function OK (flashed in save modus) but...
- Sometimes there are random reboots, I don't know what triggers this, bad files? (I only stream over a wired network from my NAS or use dlna software on my PC)
- I saw that subtitle settings from the menu are overwritten when changed in a particular movie, is mentioned before
- Shoucast radio does not work, other internet apps do (videopods and youtube) network is wired, auto settings, works fine

What I like:
- of course shortcuts on the mail menu, all that is left for a wish is putting it at the top
- Sorting of all kind of items has been improved a lot, thank you
- saving subtitle preferences in the settings is great
- Youtube is fixed

Question:
- Is it possible in a future release to also save a favorite language of subtitles, say Dutch?
Now if the subtitle option is on in the settings the mini plays the first subtitle "track" it sees. If the order is none, English, Dutch then English is played, if the order is none, Dutch, English then Dutch is played.
Maybe this is solvable by adding a language setting to the settings menu?

So conclusion: Firmware is fine and has some nice additions, but there still will be wishes to make it perfect ;)

I've just installed r5440 firmware on my Mini2 but now have a problem that I've never experienced before with earlier firmwares on both my Mini1 & Mini2.

Intermittent pixelation occuring on a DVD iso and on an mkv file.

My movies are streamed from a NAS over a gigbit wired network.

Any advice? - pls

UPDATE:
My NAS was newly upgraded and I've tracked the problem down to a faulty RAM stick
Apologies
Still get occasional stuttering when streaming 1920x1080 HD files tho'. It corrects itself after 3 or 4 secs and then is OK until the next stutter.

I appreciate your work on improvements. Just in terms of shoutcast this firmware .r5440 is fatal. I made the same experiences wich are made by viatoris above and other customers in other forums. I own one PV73200 and one PV73800 as well, and after long testing it seems to be sure:

The new firmware release .r5440 seem to make any connection to shoutcast fail.

- On HDMini (7.4.5.r5440 & board 1073DD C+) the same as on HDMini2 (9.5.5.r5440 & board 1185),
- by LAN the same as by WLAN,
- selecting "Stations" the same as "Genre" or "Search"ing.

Right before upgrading shoutcast was no problem at all. But now - even when going back to older firmware the problem persists! BTW: Youtube and problably other services still work fine.

I hope you´ll have a solution soon - because shoutcast is a major function to me. For more info or testing just contact me. Thanks.

Update: Shoutcast works fine now without me changing anything. So probably it was just a temporary Shoutcast-Service-Issue - and maybe a newly pre-selected, faulty proxy?

I upgraded to r5440 and see a lot of improvements. Thanks!

Issue #1 I can't display subtitles anymore which consist of a .IDX / .SUB pair. As far as I have seen other subtitles do work.

Issue #2 Having network folders placed under the Shortcuts menu isn't saving any "clicks" in my opinion. It would indeed if there is a special key to activate it, or to move it to the top.

Issue #3 Sometimes I start a .MKV and it starts in high speed. This happened in r3966 and still in r5440. I think it only happens when an .MKV is the first film I start after booting the Ryan.
