Bluray/DVD folder playback? = Just press '>Play' on your remote control while selected the folder of the movie. No need to manually go and find the files in the structure.

Thanks for that, every single one of my blurays it says "Interactive menu and features cannot be displayed due to unsupported BD profile"

Don't you think perhaps you should support them? and before you ask, yes the BD menu thing is enabled in the setup.

This release works pretty well for me - I really like the shortcut option on the main menu - would still be nice with the ability to index network shares and use the GUI like it was intended though.

Problem reported here still exists. At the end of slide-shows or after pressing RETURN or STOP the player sometimes reboots.
Happens with USB-Sticks, USB-Disks and with SMB-Shares.

The slideshow-effect I use is "Ken Burns".

I'm not sure it realy has to do with the slide-shows. Same behavior also sometimes appears when moving through folders.

That's due to those disks using Blu-Ray Profile 2.0 features, when the Mini is basically equivalent to a profile 1 Blu-Ray player, that's why the spec sheets say they're BD-Lite compatible and not BD-Live compatible.

The Mini 2 may or may not have the hardware required to run Profile 2.0, but even if it has then there'll still be the matter of who would pay the additional licensing fees required, even if a license would be granted given the nature of what it's used for and the BDA's stance on ripping Blu-Rays.

I doubt support will be added, but certainly what they should do is take away the warning, or make it turn off automatically after a second or so. At least in the latest firmware they've made it actually make sense :)

Thanks Ray I wasn't aware of that, seems to me that surely all new Bluray will be at that spec, so the mini will be useless as a BR player then. If maybe thery could sort out the playing os BR ISO files so that you get the menu structure that could solve the problem, or is the same reason that doesn't work?

The system as it is, is ok for playing the main movie, but I have some disks which have three versions of the movie, so which one does the mini play when you select ok to the warning and it then goes on and plays the movie?
Also I have as with Avatar, four disks, and so it's not possible to play the ones with all the making off, interviews, artwork etc because you can't get to the menu to choose what you want to watch, what happens with those? will it just work it's way through the lot?

Yeah, the majority of new disks do seem to have the Profile 2 menu structure, although I still get the odd one with the old menus. The split for me is about 45% old, 55 new, but quite a few of my movies are older catalogue titles. Where it would definately be a problem is with TV series with different episodes on it, but so far the ones I've bought all use the old style structure (though I only have a couple). I dunno whether that's by design to keep compatibility with older players, but like you say even if it is, it's probably going to change as those players die out. I do have that problem with the "extra features" disks though, I don't think there's any way round that besides ripping each section separately.

I don't think playing the menus at all is an option without the extra licensing and coding (Java support etc). It would be nice if they could maybe allow you to select a different "track" on the disk using the goto option in the Mini 2's menu, but I don't know whether that's locked out in the Blu-Ray standard somehow.

As I understand it, the Mini 2 should automatically select the "main title" as defined on the disk, the same way that a real Profile 1 Blu-Ray player would. There's a couple of titles I've found where it doesn't work, Harry Potter 7.1 for example (it starts playing one of the extra features instead), but from what I can see that's more a problem with the disk - I've seen people using the disk in old Blu-Ray players complaining of the same thing.

What I tend to do now is check whether the disk plays on the Mini by sharing the Blu-Ray drive in my server and using AnyDVD, if it does I rip the whole thing to ISO, if it doesn't I rip just the movie - either to ISO or M2TS file.

When I was deciding which player to buy I did find one with full Blu-Ray support (I think it was a PopcornHour) but it was more than twice the price and didn't support HD audio. It's the usual problem with this sort of stuff, none of them seem to do everything you want.

PS - about that bit of "handbags" we had before over the HDMI thing, Bob, sorry if you thought I was coming across as a bit of a tw*t, I didn't mean to ;)

Hello,

I tried my best to reproduce this today.

Used photos/slideshow over Samba protocol from our NAS, and from various sources and a lot of difference photo files, and also with 2seconds delay + Cross fade kenburns (+all shuffle) and let it run for hours, and randomly pressing 'Return' and 'Stop' without rebooting the Mini2. I've seen this issue from various end users, but at this point not able to reproduce. Will ask our testers to check this as well, and if reproduce able then naturally we will forward this to our developers.

Br,

Hello everyone,

Regarding the BD 2.0 menu support. This requires Java support that our hardware does not support, therefore we only have BD 1.0 (BD-Lite) support to our products as stated om our specifications.

Indexing network shares, you are currently not able to do this, and there is currently no plan from us to introduce this as we have the network shortcuts, and local storage indexing. I can't say if this will be possible in the future, but for now this will not be prioritized. This would most likely require a lot of resources and therefore also slow down the players. Don't think that is a good idea.

Br,
