Things to test:

Are you sure you actually did the Registry changes?

Restart regedit and find the keys that were supposed to be changed and see if they actually have been changed.

The other thing to double check is that you have complete ownership of the folder you are trying to share from. So if you are logged in as a user who is an admin, or logged in as the only user with no password, or whichever the situation is, take ownership of it and use those user/password settings (or lack of) to log in from the PlayOn!HD. Go to security, advanced, owner tab to view and change ownership of the folder.

Matt.

Sorry if anyone else has posted this elseware.

One thing I came across in Windows 7 is NFS is available but not turned on by default.

To turn on NFS in Windows 7 go to Control Panel and Programs and Features. In the left hand pane click "Turn Windows features on or off". Wait for it to load and scroll down to "Services for NFS".

I expanded the tree, there are only two options and I checked both.

Click okay and close Control Panel.

Try the PoHD network browsing to find you're shared Windows 7 folders.

Hope it works.

Take care.

I also cannot connect to my shared folders in Windows 7 Ultimate x64

As a "systeembeheer" i may say i have tried several things and also used the registry key changes. But i cannot log on to my shared folders.
It does see my pc in my "werkgroep" / workgroup and i do get a login screen where i can fill in my username + password but after that it just says connection failed.
I disabled the firewall in my router, i shared different folders, giving "everyone" full permission etc
Tried with different Windows 7 accounts (with and without password)
I dont use the windows "homegroup" function.

I use the PlayonHD with the Wireless USB adapter from Ac Ryan.
BTW i can connect with the shared folders on my wife's PC. She is running Vista. No problem there.
And she can access also my shared folders on Win7
So on the sharing level/permission/policies everything would look ok to me.. Accept the PlayonHD thinks not..

PS i am using the latest Beta Firmware

edit: In Windows 7 I cannot access the POHD. But i can ping the device!

Hello psies.

I too am using windows 7 Ultimate 64bit. I managed to get the POHD to see my shared folders (see post before yours). But I am struggling to get it to see TVersity or PS3 media servers.

With Vista Ultimate 64bit there is no problem seeing shared folders and even media servers installed on the pc.

My POHD is networked over homeplug to several wired pc's.

There must be some kind of evil software that Microsoft put into Windows 7 which blocks access. I have read on a few other sites that there are problems\compatability issues with Windows 7 networking.

I solved it!
Don't know how exactly, did so many things.

I first thought i could access the pohd by using its ip number in my browser like \\192.168.x.x
But that didnt' work. Than i just used it hostname \\playonhd and it workd. I can see the Hdd1 drive. So i made a network mapping.
Copying files from Windows 7 to the POHD (wireless) is working, although not too fast i must say 2,3mb/s (not really fast for a 300mbit wifi connection)
Is it usefull to do some fine tuning / tweaking in that area? or is this the maximum speed?

Anyway. i changed my workgroup name which in dutch is werkgroep back to the english term workgroup. (i guess pohd is just using workgroup as the default workgroup name?)
I also made a new account on win7 which i called playonhd (administrator)
Then i rebooted my pohd and win7 and now i was able to connect to all my shares in win7!!! WOEHOOOOOO! :grinning: :grinning:

strangly enough i still was not able to connect using my own win7 account name + password.
so i suggest everyone to just make a new fresh administrator account on your win7 pc and dont use a password. :)

This is the second mention of the workgroup name issue I have read. I think it was brought up as the problem in another share post. It usually does not come up very often since most people use the default name of "workgroup" given by Windows, but we should definately make mention of this in the FAQ the Harro is working so hard on :).

Hi
Just got my POHD (still without Hd in it)yesterday and tied to get the network working, got the same issues as above.Would see my computer name and the login but then no acess.

Tried the solutions in this thread,(exept the reg.change yet to try). But no Luck,

Strangly i could see my shared folders in upnp mode ,but no shared folder or shared hd in network mode.

Had guest account activated, but will try creating a new playon account like above and see how it´s going.

Cable connection,W7 rc 7201,a-link router-firewall off

After the reg tweak i dont have to put in anything when i connect to the pc in the workgroup it prompts login blabla i put in nothing and choose add to my shortcut etc etc

Then i browse to a share and it prompts again to login i fill in the usernaam en password that had read rights on that share

Works fine
