Post Re: Seamless branching problem with Blu-Ray ISOs
Ray Von Geezer wrote:
There's a problem playing movies in BD ISOs which use seamless branching. When the branch should occur, the Mini 2 will sometimes pause for a second or two and then play correctly, more often than that (and more seriously) it will stop completely and all you can do is stop the movie, or it will jump to completely the wrong part of the movie, picking the new point apparently at random.

Here's a couple of examples:-

'Paul' - this disk includes both "director's" and "normal" cuts of the movie, and uses seamless branching to insert the additional scenes. Quite early on there's an extra scene at the comic convention, but whether playing the normal or DC version, when the Mini 2 gets to that point it skips about 10 minutes further into the film.

Battle: Los Angeles - The Mini 2 constantly flicks forward through the movie, the first half an hour of the movie plays in about 10 minutes on the Mini 2.

Thanks,

Ray Von

Hi,

thanks for your input. What kind of bluray files are you playing? Did you rip them yourself or download from somewhere? If you ripped them which software did you use? Where do you play those blurays from? Network / HDD?
Will try to reproduce this here with the blurays we have but so far there was no issues.

br,

hi,

you can use a web service like www.wetransfer.com to send files. Just put in our email from the signature for example de@acryan.com so i can check why they are not showing. Please note that progressive .jpgs cannot be displayed that might be the case for you.

br,

Hi Arne,

Thanks for the quick response.

I only rip my own BDs, usually to ISO. I rip with DVDFab and AnyDVD, and I usually play over the network, although I can confirm the same issue when playing from USB.

The problem occurs whether I rip the full disk with AnyDVD or DVDFab, or rip using "movie only" with DVDFab, and it also happens when playing the original disk via a drive share, using AnyDVD to decrypt the disk on the fly. I don't get the problem if I play the same ISOs using PowerDVD on my PC.

I'll try and get you some more examples of disks where I have the problem, another one I can think of is Harry Potter 7.1.
One hint as to whether a BD might have an issue is to check whether the movie is composed of a single m2ts file, or several separate ones - a single m2ts file means it won't use seamless branching.

Thanks again,

Ray Von

Hi,

files have been sent to de@acryan.com. The first file 1.jpg isn't shown, the 2nd 2.jpg isn't shown correctly.

Hope you find the reason for the problem, the files are normal JPGs and no progressive JPGs.

Cheers

Hi,

as i thought: your first (not playing) picture is a progressive jpeg which we cannot play. The second picture (which plays fine) is a normal jpeg. So to get the other picture working you would need to convert it or save as a normal jpeg and not progressive! I used irfanview to get information about the picture - it's available free from web if you feel like trying it out.

cheers,

You are right, must have been a wrong setting in photoshop the time I worked on the pictures.
Also Irvanview does a conversation to "normal" jpg and the pictures worked fine after that.

Thanks a lot for your effords!

Ok, I've been resisting updating my firmware since i bought my unit and finally took the plunge upgrade from 1867 to this...

Everythings ok so far except the audio. No sound via HDMI to the TV(Picture ok), but sound present through optical to the AV receiver in LCPM and passthrough. I used both options on the setup/audio menu of LCPM and passthrough with no result. I've re-installed the firmware in safe mode initially and again now with no change. Any fixes please or I'm back to the original

Thanks

Hello,

Could you (if possible) try to use another USB-stick for the safe mode process, and make sure that it's formatted to FAT32. If you still have this issue, please let me know what AVR+TV model/brand you have if not successful.

If possible, please also check/try other HDMI cable.

Br,

Hello Mikael

Sorry, been really busy, only tried this yesterday, but not joy. I went back to initial fware, and back to normal.
I'm gonna try the new released fware, to see if i get the problems solved.

I'll come back either way.
