Even the mods are getting rid of their HD1 units because the FW is bad...

Hello there,
I totally agree with those that are fed up with AC Ryan promises. It's a disgrace how AC Ryan copes with the issues mentioned in this forum (Samba slowness, subtitles, crashes, and so on).
I had a WD player that worked with an external harddisk. I thougt AC Ryan as a successor would be nice by copying movies throughout the network. Well because I'm still having the firmware from april 2010 this is working (about 4 mbps).
I tested 7 beta's or whatever and it's all shit. What bothers me most is that I'm following this forum for more than a year now and AC Ryan doesn 't listen to any of the complaints and certainly doesn't solve them. It s always: wait for his.... we are working on it... The new GUI is a disaster!
But what the hack my acryan plays with the old firmware, if it dies I don't buy AC ryan anymore and when you look at this forum nobody does that in the future!
Regards and strengt and wisdom to you all.

Hi Everyone,

First of all sorry for any inconvenience caused if some, only or all of you found that the firmware is not getting better and for those that felt that we don't keep our promises. Our Technical team is always aiming for the best, please take into considerations that there will be always few factors why it did not work out for you. You might want to ask, why it works on others. For example the network samba thing, i myself also test this on every firmware and i did found that some have really issues and some are working. Latest test was today using firmware 4585, copied 13GB took 1hr 5min but yesterday same file/size took only less than an our. It may not give you the same result everytime as you are not running the same task all of the time.

Anyway, currently we are doing another firmware which will mainly solve/improve bugs being reported to us plus more. Please standby for further announcement.

Hello,
This is what I mean... Another promise. Anyway I'll try it when it comes out.
About samba: I am a network engineer so I know that circumstances influence speed. But the acryan always gives speed up to 4,8 mbps max. So if there comes any improvement. :o .
It isn't my intention to offend or harm anyone, what I wrote today is a summary (I guess objective) from reading the forum for more than a year. And I still have the opinion that if Acryan was a software developing company they no longer existed.
My challenge for ACRyan: a firmware that looks nice, plays media and copying media content to the player with 8-10mbps, this would be fine and sufficient.
Regards.

Hi, thank you for your inputs. Sorry as i do not get what you mean by 'this is what i mean'? For me it is not a promise, personally i said that because i did a test and i have the result and for me it really did fix bugs and improved. But i can say that don't expect a lot. Again, thank you for understanding.

Hi!,

I did copy all of my files to the pohd, to avoid the "wireless hidden ssid" problem.
So i use the 4585 release for a while now without "real" problems.
Till yesterday evening.
I was playing one of the mkv files and lost the audio while playing the file for a short moment and it comes back.
It's not a one time thing, it keeps loosing audio and coming back.
(!! for now only found this issue with that file !!)
Reflash the fw is not the solution. With the older fw (before 3699) never had that issue with that file.
Anyone recognises this issue?

grtz.

EDIT 30-7-2011: Back to old firmware (4824).
crapy colors for the gui but it works.

The hardware made by Realtek doesn't support speeds over 5Mbit, the processor is too slow for higher speeds.
But this is something we allready knew and other brands with the same board/processor also have speeds up to 5Mbit and no higher.
The problem I frequently get is that the speeds don't go higher than 1.35-1.85Mbit and a 1,19GB file takes 20-30 minutes to complete copying!
Can you imagine if it was a 13GB file :o

What confuses me is the way F/W seems to have a 1 step forward 2 steps back result.

Let's say, as a developer, you have BETA F/W, you get feedback, this don't work, that is great etc.
So surely as a developer you fix whats broken and each release gets better?
Why then does it seem 1 thing is fixed and 2 others don't work anymore or develop problems?

My original F/W had no problems with Network Connections but the most awful UI I've ever seen on anything, you could not even tell what was highlighted without squinting.
My current F/W has a much better UI but ongoing network issues.

It seems to me development of my original F/W has been abandoned in favour of a F/W designed for the new ACR Playon!HD2 and the bottom line is it's not compatable with the Playon!HD1 so now the developers have had to go back to square one and see if they can fix / modify it to work without problems with the HD1.

Bottom line is its not the continuation of ongoing development, development has started all over again. My biggest worry is that ACR abandon HD1 all together!

I won't be buying a ACR, HD2 because I have no confidence ACR have learnt what there custonmers want, example while a USB3 port is nice I think everyone would much prefer a full performance LAN. we have 10/100/1000 mb/sec systems now and get stuck with a Realtek processor that doesn't even support speeds over 5Mbit.
USB 2 supported 480 Mbit/s, USB 3 supports 5 Gbit/s and the PlayOnHD has a LAN transfer speed design cap of 5Mbit more likely 1Mbit if your lucky.

If you look at the HD2 specification it says "Network - Wired: Gigabit" surely I should expect a wired LAN transfer speed of 1Gb/sec? or does Gigabit mean something different at ACR?

Oh wait the PlayOnHD1 specification said "10/100 Mbps Auto-Negociated Ethernet and get this "802.11 b/g/n WLAN, up to 300Mbps (supported by optional WLAN USB Adapter).
It even says "*(Wired Network is included / Wireless Network is an optional extra, not included in the standard package. To enjoy wireless network at up to 300Mbps, purchase the Wireless option) "

Clearly I and everyone else must have faulty units if we can't even get 5Mb/s? Actually to think about it, its NEVER fully worked "as advertised". Maybe if your unit is still under warranty you need to take it back for a refund. I bought mine in Singapore so sadly its not cost effective me me to take it back.

Maybe I.m to naive, I mean fancy expecting something that says it will give 300Mbps to actually be true!
