Post How to fix unsupported audio in h264 video file
I got a new aigo 1080p h264 video camera that saves the videos in avi format. Problem is the audio comes up as 'unknown' when i play it in my ac ryan hd box.

If i run the avi file through mkvmerge it see the video as H264 but the audio is labeled as 'unsupported'.

Im not sure in this mysterious audio format can be added to the ac ryan but i guess what i need is some solution to convert the audio to a supported audio file so i can play the video.

Maybe a AVI to MKV video converter is the solution? Any recommendations on what i can use to get around this issue.

Thanx in advance.

Hi kero,

Did you try using GSpot or MediaInfo to identify the audio-codec? If it is only the audio that is not supported, transcoding should be really fast. Try Avidemux, set video to copy and audio to anything you like (MP3 will probably do). It should be ready within a minute. You could convert your AVI (with transcoded audio) to MKV as well, but that will not bring any advantage as it uses the same audio and video tracks.

Thanx vanhal

MediaInfo shows the audio as
384Kbps, 48.0 KHz, 4 bits, 2 channels, ADPCM (Intel)

So my AC Ryan box and mkvmerge does not like that type of audio (must be custom?).

So ran it through Avidemux and just changed just the audio to MP3 and now the audio plays fine on my AC Ryan box.

Thanx heaps. Now ive just got to fix the rest of my home video files :)
