It seems that the networkconnection isn't full-duplex.
As soon as you upload something with win7 and download something from the PlayOn (for instance when you refresh a window in Win7) at the same time it crashes.

I am using Win 7 with Gigabit wired connection to Playon. When I copy files to the player, the speed would fluctuate between 0.5mb/s to 5mb/s and would crash sometimes. When I copy files from the Player to Win 7, the initial speed is usually quite good (about 7mb/s) but only good for a few seconds and the Player would crash every time. I have reverted it back to firmware r4824, my network connection is now back to normal. Upload speed is about 5mb/s and download about 7mb/s consistently. I like the new interface of r4585 but I need a network connection that works. So I would stay put with r4824 until ACRyan/Realtek is able to fix the network issues.

tired of installing buggy updates! Stability is still a big problem for the last 3-4 updates... I don't understand the whole point of this forum since it is taking ACR ages to listen to the voices here and offer solutions that work.

I just downgraded to Firmware_PV73100_v7.3.4.r3582_European which to my experience offers better stability on simple tasks like watching a movie and/or copying data within the network.

In the future I would prefer just ONE single and stable version rather than updates new functions.

Exactly the same thought occurred to me - I believe that the problems that plague every version of the firmware have discouraged so many users that they have given up on this product. I know that I used to check the discussion frequently in hopes that things would improve significantly. Now I only check back once in a while, but the situation always seems to be the same. Too bad.

Hello,

There are probably more factors to this. I personally think the firmware is getting better for every update, there might be those who disagree. This is normal when it comes to online support/forums, happy costumers make less noise than unhappy costumers. It's also summer time, this is a kind of low season for movie watching in general.

In either case, back to work! :)

Br,

I also disagree, I was at a shop looking at Media Players yesterday they had a whole bunch and quite a crowd (I was amaized at how many brands), even the salesman (I bought my ACR from 9-months ago) was pushing 'other brands' when I asked why, he said I get too many complaints, when I got him to expand nearly everything was firmware related.

I am looking to sell mine off and get something else; why? I'm sick and tired of re-booting because the network is unstable. I dont want to go back to PV73100_v7.3.4 because the UI was crap especially the colour scheme.
So now I have to keep carting my sodding unit around the house to my PC to copy movies using USB cable.

In my opinion you are wrong with your comment "happy costumers make less noise than unhappy costumers" fed-up customers who have complained about the same thing over and over and over again with no news or ETA on a cure just loose the energy to complain, if that's ACR's tactic then re-think because I absolutely promise you it's loosing you reputation and sales.

What should I do post every week with the same question? Will that make you realise I'm fed-up?

1) ACR-PV73100
2) Currently using Firmware_PV73100_v7.4.3.r4585_Asian,
but same problem with Firmware_PV73100_v7.4.3.r3966_Asian.
2.1) Bootloader: 0000.0202.1026L
2.2) Board: 1073DD
2.3) IP: 192.168.1.11 (AUTO)
3) Reproducibility: nearly always
4) Setup: how are you connected? Via D-Link DSL-2740B Router - Wired LAN, CAT 5e Shielded
5) MS Windows 7 Ultimate, 6.1.7601 Pack 1 Build 7601 (Windows Update = up-to-date)
5.1) PC Processor - Intel(R) Core(TM) i7 CPU Q 720 @ 1.60GHz, 1600 Mhz, 4 Core(s), 8 Logical Processor(s)
6) Description of problem: when trying to copy media from PC to ACR over Wired LAN, Networked drops and HDD1 is reported "No Longer Found"
Windows Network Diagnostic 'report' its said: file and print sharing resource (PLAYONHD) is online but isn't responding to connection attempts. Detected

The remote computer isn’t responding to connections on port 445, possibly due to firewall or security policy settings, or because it might be temporarily unavailable. Windows couldn’t find any problems with the firewall on your computer.

My problems is ongoing network problems, I have to re-boot so many times I feel like throwing the damn thing away. File transfer speed over the LAN Cable is also inconsistent, most of the time I can't even get 1mb/s.

I'm using the modified Mede8tor software for quite a while now (on the ACRYAN) with the extra skin(s) (there a lot of them) and it is working perfect.
OK, there is no internetshit, but then I only using my media player to watch movies, watch photo's and listing to music and the modified Mede8tor firmware is doing that perfect.
External USB drives work fine, network (even wireless) is very sable.

So the hardware is OK, the original ACRyan firmware ???????

I'm sorry to disagree Mikael, but if ACR thinks they're giving us a good FW with this one, you're wrong. And at the same time it shows exactly why we (customers) can wait forever on a decent release: ACR has lower expectations, they think it's just fine... But when you read through the comments that are given, you see that some basic stuff just isn't right yet.

The FW still isn't user friendly, the network speeds still aren't good (let alone stable..), the long promissed movie jukebox still is a hassle.. and so on, and so on...

Really, I've given up hope and work with an old FW which I know is as stable as it gets. But I really think there's a lot of people like me, who've just given up. If you would put a poll on the frontpage or where ever (not in this really badly "improved" forum) and ask people if they would buy an ACR product in the future or even if they're happy with their unit, you'd be amazed...

Couldn't agree with you more. This forum used to be a lively place were users would help each other with small issues. With time I have seen a lot of frustrated people, most of them are gone now. I can only hope AC Ryan will eventually understand how to listen to their customers.
Let's have that poll... ;-)

As said before I am satisifed with the latest Official release. It does what I want it to do: Play movies from my NAS. I am not copying any files to the PoHD because I don't expect such a device to have sufficient power for this. I also don't download with it. My ReadyNAS duo does it all.
Of course there are still a number of bugs in the current official release, but it general I think it is a huge improvement. If ACR invests in fixing the remaining bugs they really have a good value for money device.

NAS capability was touted as a key feature of Playon!HD and we paid a premium for the feature. Unfortunately it is broken now with the latest firmwares. It is unacceptable for ACR to simply say that it is their OEM's problem and that they can't promise anything!
