So is this really a technicall problem and should I return it to the shop or is there perhaps another thing I could try first?

to the Zoom function: it is just how the software works as this point. If you choose to zoom in the directional buttons will move the picture left/right/up/down. If you want to jump in the movie while zoom is active you can still use the 'GOTO' button on the remote control.

as for the shortcuts: this function will be introduced soon so you will be able to add your favorite shortcuts to the main menu. We do know this is a highly requested feature so give us some more time to get this going correctly. It will come though.

I have a problem with the optical SPDIF interface...

I found that passthrough on the SPDIF out works only if I set HDMI to LPCM-Multichannel. With HDMI set to "LPCM" and SPDIF set to passthrough there's no audio output on the SPDIF interface, regardless which media I use (MKV, ISO, etc.).

I have no HDMI equipement, so I was not able to test HDMI out with different settings, but for SPDIF I found the following:

HDMI: LPCM, SPDIF: LPCM -> OK
HDMI: LPCM, SPDIF: Passthrough -> broken
HDMI: LPCM Multichannel, SPDIF: LPCM -> OK
HDMI: LPCM Multichannel, SPDIF: Passthrough -> OK

It's no real problem for me, I set HDMI to LPCM Mulitchannel and now everything works as expected, but it might be a problem for others.

Can someone confirm this behaviour?

I connected the player with an optical cable so my sound problem is fixed for the moment. But I think it is worthwhile to look into my first request. Keep up the good work though

I've recently installed this beta firmware, and I think overall there are lots of improvements.
One thing I've noticed though I'd like to see fixed in the next firmware.

I use a Mac to transfer files to my NAS. From my NAS I stream content to the mediaplayer. I usually have external subtitles (srt). As you may or may not know OSX creates dot.filename (".example") files for most of the files, where it stores metadata. So when I transfer, for example, "movie.srt" to the NAS, automatically OSX adds a ".movie.srt" file as well. The problem is that the new firmware shows this ".movie.srt" file as a selectable subtitle, but obviously it does not work. This was not the case in firmware r3966. Could you please fix this in the next release?

Also, when changing the size and position of subtitles for a movie, the next time these settings are all forgotten. I would really appreciate a global configuration option for all subtitles in all movies.

Update went fine, but I have still problems with the SPDIF out when playing DVDs. My setting for SPDIF is Passthrough, but then I've no sound at all. When I change this to LPCM, return to the DVD and revert it again to Passthrough it works fine. In spite of this workaroud it's still very annoying. Hope you can fix this in the next release. Keep up the good work.
I read messages from other users with the same problem, so maybe you can add this to the Known Issue list.

I don't want to have "Last added movies and music " on the main screen.
Clearing the history doesn't seem to work on this firmware. I allways get a " Clear failed !"

and..by the way..:
a webbrowser would be great..

I've just started using the Mini2. My primary requirement for a box like this is to play all kinds of video media from a network share with the least amount of hassle. Subtitles are important to me. So my two biggest issues with this firmware is (as mentioned by others):

1. Automatically use an external subtitle file with the same name as the media file (even if there are other files in the folder)

2. Save the subtitle font size once changed (or have an option to store your preferred font size)

These issues I consider as flaws.

I would also like to be able to access shortcuts directly from the main menu.

Hi, we have noted this as well and forwarded this to our developers already. As soon as we have more information or a fix regarding this issue we will post it in the according firmware topics.


The way the function works has changed in our latest firmware. It will now delete the db and clean the history instead of just hiding it as it did previously. In this procedure the .THEATER folder containing the .db file will be deleted. So if you are having a corrupted database that for example makes your player reboot you don't have to connect it to a PC anymore to delete this folder.
If you get the message Clear failed ! it basically means that you already cleared the db and deleted that folder.
On this current platform there is no full browser but a webkit. You can use that to browse websites that are not using heavily flash for example since that's not supported.


both of these issues have been forwarded to our developers as feature requests. Once we have more information about this it will be announced.. The shortcut function has been heavily requested and we are aware of it's importance to make the use of the player easier. We are working on it - so it will come in the near future

Well, I have not deleted the THEATRE folder, and there is no corrupted database, ......but..."clear failed".
I still want to hide "last added movies and music"
it takes a lot of time to shutdown until the "last added movies and music" are on screen.....
the browser could be more comfortably.....
