Thanks for this update! For me now the unit doesn't crash anymore when I press SETUP during movie playback which is a major improvement!

Going back to youtube: I just updated to 7.4.x.4585 firmware as that is what we're discussing here. There is an improvement (compared to 7.4.r3966) in that now when I login using my youtube account details, there are boxes with my favourites, playlists, etc that are listed. But when I press enter to access these categories, the "network congestion error" appears. So, I guess this must be a bug and will report it as such.
That's unless anyone can advise a way to fix this?

Does the unit remember subtitle size and position now after watching a movie ?

No, it still does not!

And I wonder if ACR is listening to the users regarding this...

In fact it is even worse. I keep series in a common folder, each episode also has an .srt file. Beginning with r4585, it is the first .srt file in the folder which is opened, regardless of the file names. You have to manually select the .srt file in the subtitle menu. If you happen to have more than 15 episodes in the same folder you are out of luck, because the subtitle menu only shows the first 15 files, and you cannot select the correct subtitle.

Automatically selecting the subtitle file with the same base name as the video has worked in all previous firmware versions I have tried, including r3966, but it is now broken.

Agreed with that. I do the same with all my movies which are just in alphabetical named folders. I don't know who had the brilliant idea to remove the based name link between .srt files and movie names but that pretty illogical. If subtitles are ON in setup, playing any movie (regardless they got a matching .srt files or not) will play with the first alphabetical .srt file in the folders. Plus as mentioned above if there are more than 15 then your done...
Loads of my MKV movies don't play well anymore but in X2 or X4 speed... plus if you try to change the audio language, when playing a .MKV movie, it will go into that high speed playing. didn't do that before.
Conclusion as usual it's 2 steps forward and one step backwards.
But thanks for the quick update this time. Please just fix what is not working, stop playing with what worked well before...

Tried it for a few days. The GUI speed is o.k. It is playing my movies just fine.

But the samba and the telnet client keep on crashing. The first few minutes after a reboot I can connect through samba or telnet but after that there is no way to connect to the playon. You can't even ping it.

Back to 4824!

So this is the third GUI2.0 firmware I've tested - and I'm still not too impressed. I use the Mini for streaming media from a NAS - I'm not too bothered about the internet capabilities - I wish AC Ryan would fix the basics first - issues that are all well documented. Anyway - here's my views on r4585
I'm back to r4824 again as the jukebox is still well short of usable

Firmware Loader
Still says r4860 just like the beta - I seem to remember AC Ryan saying this would be fixed in r3966

Shortcuts
The much reported shortcuts issue is still there. Shortcuts are buried too deep in the menu structure, and still can only be configured to server name or IP Address, and not the actual share. As a result the Mini can see a lot of system and other folders on my NAS that I don’t actually want to share out to a media player. I know AC Ryan say this needs an SDK change from Realtek, but this issue has been there for at least all of the SDK3 releases as well, and still no info on when it will be fixed

Indexing
The GUI will still not index files on a NAS or other share if defined using a shortcut – the firmware is still focussed on USB disks, rather than network based shares. The Mini is supposed to be a network streamer.

USB Devices
The new firmware will still not see my USB memory stick on boot up if I simply turn off the Mini with the remote control and then turn it back on again. I have to turn off, reseat the USB stick and then turn it on again. This is a problem new to SDK4 firmware as I have previously reported, and seriously reduces the usability of the Mini, as I have to rely on volume mount points on the USB stick to make the Mini index the NAS based shares and see the jukebox files without a lot of unnecessary key presses on the remote. Ecerything works fine when I revert back to r4824

Volumes and Volume Mount Points
The new firmware is still focussed on Linux ‘devices’ rather than ‘volumes’. As per the beta, it is possible to script creating a new directory in /tmp/ramfs/volumes, use it as a mount point for a NAS share, see the NAS based files from a Telnet session, but the GUI won’t see them, unlike SDK3. The only way to make the Mini mount NAS shares at startup is to create directories on a USB stick and use these as volume mount points. The new firmware will then index these NAS based shares as it sees them as directories on a local drive. Still, it’s a pain of the new firmware won’t see the USB stick reliably on boot up without a reseat.

Jukebox
No improvements or bug fixes have been made to the Jukebox since the beta. The Jukebox still insists on browsing for index.htm each time – why can’t this file be remembered? There’s an option in the GUI now to switch to another Jukebox/index file which can be used to reload the index as well. The Jukeboox is very poor compare to SDK3 and is the main reason I keep going back to r4824

The speed of browsing through the main Jukebox screen has not improved since r3966, and, when you cursor right so that the Jukebox has to refresh the images on the screen to bring up the next few, there is a 2 second gap between pressing the button on the remote and the next two images appearing on screen. The same delay happens when you go into menu mode and cursor right across the menu bar at the top. This makes both browsing and menu selection very slow and renders the Jukebox unusable.

The YAMJ categories are still not implemented (and they are in SDK3 firmwares), so you can’t go straight to new movies for instance.

Boxed sets and TV series, while visible from the main screen, do not work from the main screen. Going into a box set or TV series from the main screen simply brings up a blank page. Box sets and TV series are only accessible from the 'Sets' menu from the right hand most dropdown menu. It’s a huge step backwards from SDK3. Also, when drilling down into a TV series, and browsing around the season images, the season names do not appear in the title bar in the middle of the screen, making it harder to identify each series. Movie and TV Series titles in general are still truncated when displayed in the title bar in the middle of the screen, when there is clearly a sufficient space to display the whole title. There is still no ability to display the episode titles within each TV series.

Clock And Timesync
Still not back - you can't set the clock or timesync it - which screws up YAMJ if you happen to store the index / Jukebox on a USB drive plugged into the Mini

Yet again I'm back to r4824 and still wondering when AC Ryan will start acknowledging the issues, especially with the Jukebox and sort them out - Are they still seriously supporting YAMJ?

Have you tried selecting the folder and pressing play?

bummer .. mostly used the select buttons ;-) I guess and start from the bup or vob file in the latest firmware... but the main reason to go back to v7.3.6.r4824 was the subtitle issues , played on the laptop you see subtitles, played via the Ryan no subtitles, pressing the subtitle button it says there are no subtitles present

That's weird, when I see the title and subdir's and whatever for text in the preview mode, the lowercase 'o' don't show, like in "l wercase" and in "preview m de", and "p is n" is not readable it's more like a quiz LOL. A restart fixed the problem. Are there others who sometimes missing a letter, in my case a specific letter.
