Post Build a new kernel
I have some problems with my mini. I believe, that the cause is very old kernel.
What i have already done:
I have build a new busybox (1.18.5) for mipsel archtecture. Unpacked firmware with this tool:
viewtopic.php?f=107&t=18471
Replaced busybox and my mini is working. (some modifcatons were neccessery inet.d mount.c for cfis)
What i want to do:
Build a new 2.6.x Kernel and pack it into the install.img, like busybox.
My problem:
I dont know how, i can try it with the original kernel source and make a cross-compile.
Have anybody done this in the past time ?
regards

You just can't create a new kernel You also need to update drivers etc. As part of this package is the closed source Realtek package I think they're is little or no chance .

@jr_mac_ryan,
thanks for the information........
But this means also, it doenst make sense to buy the mini2, because it has the same old kernel.
Is the Source for the mini2 also closed ?

All Realtek SDKs are closed and AC Ryan has signed a non disclosure agreement with Realtek and I assume the other manufacturers who use Realtek chipsets (a.o. Mede8er, Egreat, Emtec) signed a non disclosure agreement as well.

I do not think the Linux kernel is the problem, but the design of the chipsets with an emphasis on media playing and not on general usage.
