 optware ipkg package: vlc
@Buzzkaido, I found a vlc media player ipkg package for oleg optware shown below? Can you add it to POD's oleg/optware library? I think if we can get it to work, POHD might be able to do universal streaming. --------- Package: vlc Version: 0.9.9a-1 Depends: dbus Suggests: faad2, ffmpeg, flac, freetype, fribidi, liba52, libdvbpsi, libdvdnav, libdvdread, libid3tag, libmad, libmpcdec, libmpeg2, libogg, libpng, libshout, libupnp, libvorbis, libxml2, ncursesw, speex , avahi , x264 Section: video Architecture: mipsel Maintainer: NSLU2 Linux <nslu2-linux@yahoogroups.com> MD5Sum: e73b2c57e724637e0a917d3616cea667 Size: 3483447 Filename: vlc_0.9.9a-1_mipsel.ipk Source: http://download.videolan.org/pub/videol ... 9a.tar.bz2 Description: VLC is a cross-platform media player and streaming server.

Sorry, I don't have a lot of time these days...
Could you try it and tell me how it works ?
To install it, simply type "ipkg install vlc" from a telnet terminal.

To install it, simply type "ipkg install vlc" from a telnet terminal. I've tried it before. I succesfully installed it. However, I couldn't figure out how to use it. It told me I couldn't run the program as user "root". My Linux skill is limited. When you have free time, maybe you can take a look?

 Re: optware ipkg package: vlc
To create a new user :
1. remount root filesystem as read-write :
"mount -o,remount,rw /"
2. add a user :
"adduser username"
Then connect with this user and test.
What do you want to do with VLC ? Because I don't think VLC can take advantage of hardware video decoding on a POHD...

 Re: optware ipkg package: vlc
Thanks. Bascially, I just want to be able to receive real-time MMS,RTSP streams for iptv, etc. Currently, POHD can receive only HTTP stream via rss feed.
So, i thought this oleg version of vlc might be able to do the same as its pc version. I don't expect it to be able to directly output video to tv screen, but it MAY be able to stream to a file that we can open under browser, I hope.

 Re: optware ipkg package: vlc
I don't think any package can display anything on TV, because we need the Realtek SDK for that, and it's closed source.
To stream MMS or RTSP, I think the best way is to send a lot of mails about that to Realtek (and AC Ryan).

 Re: optware ipkg package: vlc
on many forums they've mentioned that streaming can be possible if we're able to execute html channel page
i tried this technique using my dreambox html file but i wasn't able to see it in the POHD
also i tried calling the dreambox stream inside the channel section of youtube feed but it didn't work either
hopefully we can find a solution
