Post Accessing movies on NAS box
Hi,

new to YAMJ and really like the look of it. I have indexed my movies and I can view the library on my POHDmini but when I try to play the file nothing happens.

I suspect that it may be a path problem or an access problem but I'm not sure which or even how to determine this.

I first created the library using the gui tool but all the xml files used the network share (V:\) as the path to the file which would be fine from my pc but the pohd doesn't see "v:\"

I recreated the library using the CLI and giving \\192.168.1.15\video as the path thinking that this would be visible from the pohd too but still no playback.

The NAS is a synology DS210J and I'm confused as to why I can see and browse the library but not see the actual video files which are in the same place...

Does YAMJ access a NAS using NFS or uPnP or some other method. I'm a novice at networking but I usually get stuff to work (evenually). This one is beating me though :?

Does nothing happen or do you get an error message?

Assuming that your 'video' file is at the root of your NAS then try this as the path:

/video

When I click play I get a confirmation box to play the file, I press Confirm and nothing happens.

Is there a quick way to change all the xml files from the ip address to \video? Or is there a way to customise the path when the library is being generated? One thing I could try is to mount the shared NAS folder on my pc in a root folder called Video, once it doesn't put a "C:\" before it it might work...

I'll manually rename a few paths in their xml files to see what works and then try to do a full library rebuild with whatever path works. I'll let you know how I get on.

Thanks for the help.

Update:

I've tried every directory/network naming structure I can think of and still not able to play the movies.

Should I connect to the NAS by a particular method? Browse network or use NFS? Does it matter to YAMJ?

If I use an existing shortcut to browse for the index file will the pohd still have permissions to access the NAS?

I'm lost and confused... please help

I've tried, but as I said my network skills are limited and while I have a fair idea I'm no expert. I'm also trying to do things from 3 different devices - create the library from my pc - store it on my NAS - access it from my podhmini.

Even if I can manually edit an xml file for one movie and finally get it to work, I have thousands of files to do the same thing with. There must be an easy/obvious thing that I'm missing. I'm not the only person doing things this way I'm certain.

Do you find the index file you created by running YAMJ from the PC?
Can you see all your movies?
Could you select one and read the movie information?

From this point I just press the round button in the middle of the remote controll (sort of between play and the pause button), and the movie starts. Nothing happens if I just press PLAY. I both select the movia and play the movie by pressing the same big round button.

But perhaps this is exactly what you are doing!!?

In my case I have all the movie files on my Windows Home Server i the folder /video/movies where the index.html file also will be created. The Jukebox folder is located at /video/movies/Jukebox and the referens to a specific movie is automatically set to file://../Movies/ in the created movie-name.html file. No referens to a unit letter like in your case V:\ or an IP-address. So if you are able to navigate to the index file created in the YAMJ session you should be fine. The index file can't be created in a different folder and after that moved to the NAS...you have to create it in the right folder directly when YAMJ is run (at least to my knowledge).

Good luck.

/Manor

Thanks for the info Manor.

I can get as far as the "push the big button" bit but nothing happens...

I have a feeling that I may have messed up when I was learning this stuff (still learning, LOTS to learn  ) so I think I'll restart the process, delete the jukebox folder and rebuild from scratch.

Will be tomorrow evening now, I'll update on my progress tomorrow evening... thanks everyone for the help

Update: Still not working. I realised that I had initially set the file location using a mapped drive from my pc, which is mapped as "V". When I rebuilt I browsed directly to the network device and the folder "\\diskstation\video\"

This is the end of the xml file for one movie..

Code:
   <fileLocation>V:\Movies\Pixar Collection\A.Bugs.Life.1998.720p.BluRay.x264-Japhson.mkv</fileLocation>
<fileURL>file://../Movies/Pixar%20Collection/A.Bugs.Life.1998.720p.BluRay.x264-Japhson.mkv</fileURL>

The "filelocation" referenced as "V:\" whereas the "fileurl" is referenced in what I suspect is the correct manner

Anyone have any knowledge as to whether this is right or wrong?

Update: IT'S WORKING!!! :D

There must have been a config file somewhere keeping the output directory as V: I deleted all evidence of YAMJ and the GUI Installer and restarted from scratch a little wiser than before... it worked. The output directory was correctly set as \\ronan-ds210j\ and it all works.

Now I just need to figure out how to sort out the incorrect entries...

Thanks to those who offered their insights and I hope this is some help to future head scratchers like me :)
