 File System Check
I bought a second Essential and installed a new 2 terra byte drive in it. It is one NTFS parition. I also formatted the drive on the media box . I have copied 900meg of files onto it. Every time i boot up it gives brings up a box to do a file system check. I click ok and it just comes back again and again even if i canel it it still comes back. I have checked the drive for errors from my laptop no errors were found. I have also upgraded to the latest firmware and switched off autoscan still no help.
Please give me a solution

 Re: File System Check
Was the "one NTFS parition" present before you formatted the drive with your Essential? There should also be a Linux swap partition and an Ext3 partition on the disk. The latter two are normally created in addition to the NTFS (data) partition, when you format a new disk with the Playon, but if the disk has been formatted before, this may go wrong, because then there may be no free space left on the hard disk for the two system partitions..

 Re: File System Check
THanks for reponding. created the NTFS partition from my laptop and usb connection as one partition. Must i redo it differently? What size must i create it and do i leave the rest as unallocated?

 Re: File System Check
You must now delete all partitions on the disk with Windows (This computer right mouse click > Manage > Disk Management) and format the empty disk with the Playon, after the Playon has been disconnected from your PC. This is the only way to partition the disk correctly, because the partitions must also be allocated in a specific sequence.

 Re: File System Check
If i delete the partition and disconnect it from USB does the playon automatically partition the disc and format it?

 Re: File System Check
Not automatically, you still need to have a display as the player will prompt the formatting message and from there you can agree and the formatting will begin.

 Re: File System Check

Thanks

 Re: File System Check
The Essential (and other Playons with an internal hard disk) partitions the drive with three or four (DVR-HD) partitions and formats these partitions with the applicable file system (NTFS, Linux swap, Ext3 and a proprietary file system for the DVR-HD). The non-NTFS partitions have a predetermined size and the NTFS partition will be assigned the remaining free space.

 Re: File System Check
Thanks Sorted the formatting
One last problem the auto scan does not update even though it is set on. When i had the drive partitioned with two 1 Terra byte partitions it worked fine. Is it because of the size of the single partition of the number of files?

 Re: File System Check
I am not sure because I find the Auto scan a nuisance and do not use it at all.
Attach your Essential to your PC again with the USB cable and delete the .Theater folder (this a hidden folder and you should enable displaying hidden files in the Windows Explorer). Then try the Auto Scan function again.
