Post Few subtitle ideas
I just bought a Mini2. After using it for a while I decided to update firmware to the latest.
Luckily for me a stable one has been recently released... It improved a lot. And it proved that original firmware was a joke  I'm using Mini as a network player to read contents out of my Windows PC and Laptop shares, so nothing fancy. However I'd like to suggest some improvements to subtitle engine:
1. Make a full subtitle "tags" and colour support in the player.
Or at least enable option to ignore all "tags" and not to display them at all? :grinning:
2. Provide option (or make it thicker by default) to change size of rim around letters. Few pixels of black colour around white letters would make it easier to read on occasionally bright backgrounds.

Hi,

thanks a lot for your suggestions. We had several discussions previously about the subtitles display. Unfortunately there are no plans at this point to change the behavior of their display. Hope you can understand this but thanks for your feedback!

best regards,

So you're just going to leave the colour tags broken and not bother to fix them? Nice.

It'd be handy but quite a bit of work I'd imagine and anyway, you can find them in moments at http://www.subtitleseeker.com

I agree that adjustable border thickness would have been nice to have, or just a second font option with thicker black border would be enough.

Secondly, adjustable leading (line spacing), OR simply make it X/120% - it's too much now. This really isn't a matter of opinion I'm afraid :p A ratio of 1/1.2 (where 1 is the max height of the characters, and 1.2 is line spacing) is tried, tested, and has been universally accepted probably for a few centuries already.

It doesn't matter if you're making a newspaper, a poster or subtitles for a movie - X/120% is the ratio that gives best readability. Like with everything else there are exceptions - if you're using an nonconforming font, or you're designing and want to create visual effects of sorts. But with subtitles we're not doing any of that, so 1/1.2 is the best choice, I guarantee it :)

It is not without reason that Adobe InDesign have this ratio as default ;)
