 MKV playing too fast
Got this problem with many of my mkv's, both selfmade and from other sources.
When I start a movie, it starts way to fast, 3-4X maybe. Then if I press pause multiple times and then play again the movie plays normally. The same thing happens when fast forwarding. When I fastforward a movie and then press play it plays way to fast.. Doing the 'pause multiple times' thing gets the movie to play normally again.
I've tried fw 4368_eu, But then the problem seems to be bigger, doing it almost all the time ..
With 3582_eu its better , and on fewer movies , and the pause-play trick works better , but still very irritating. It seems to me that the problem in 3582 became bigger after I upgraded to 4368 then downgraded again.. Is there anything 4368 installs that the downgrade doesn't replace maybe ?
I've ordered another playon!hd and another disk , so I will try all new hardware, but is there anyone who have seen this problem before ? I've been scanning the forum for some days now but cannot find anything similar..

 Re: MKV playing too fast
I can see what your problem is right away. You are using Handbrake to encode the mkv's with. Did they come out with a stable version that fully supports the mkv container yet? Regardless, as the first troubleshooting step, I would use another program to do your muxing with.
As a side step to fix the issue, drop the mkv into MkvToolnix and have it remux it to see if it can correct the timing and syncing points for the audio and video streams.
It could also possibly a PlayOn!HD hardware issue, but 9 out of 10 times when there is a playback issue with supported codecs it is the container.

 Re: MKV playing too fast
It might be that the vidcoder/handbrake encoder is not optimal. I've tried the mkvtoolnix remux with all sorts of adjustments to no avail ..
But the har facts remain :
I now have 3 pcs playon!hd with different harddrives that does this bs , so we can rule out hw-problems.
The problem is present on 3582, but gets significantly worse on 4368 and the new 4824, to the degree that it's now not only on fastforward and resume , but also often on startup. So of course it has to do with software of some sort , or the software's handling of faults in data..
I have 1 WDTV that plays all these files perfectly, vlc and windows media player the same.
I have 250 + files with this problem, every one of them from some version or other of handbrake. Some encoded myself, some from friends and some from other sources. The one difference I can see in the files that work from those that don't is that mediainfo says that the handbrakefiles have "Frame rate mode : Variable". Don't know if this is significant ..
Am I the only one stupid enough to use VidCoder ? Is there a setting i'm missing ? What are everybody else using ?
Any suggestions ?

 Re: MKV playing too fast
I do a lot of encoding/transcoding (mostly my AVCHDlite (photo)camera movies) with handbrake using the stable 0.9.4 version. Both on my (preferred) private MacOSX macbook, as well as on my linux ubuntu server (batchwise using the CLI version) as occasionally business wise on my windows laptop. I never had issues with handbrake encoded mkv's (or mp4s for that matter) using the previous 0.9.3 and the current 0.9.4 on the playon or anywhere else.
Please try again with a stable handbrake. Svn builds are leading edge, but sometimes bleading edge as well. Note that the stream might be correct, which is why vlc plays it correctly, but the metadata/header data might be crippled. VLC uses a couple of techniques to determine the correct codec, fps next to reading the "official" index/header data. The playon implementation might be a little simpler.

 Handbrake 0.9.5 MKV Conversion Problem
I wonder if anyone has had the same problems as I with:
The latest version of HandBrake 0.9.5 using preset 'HIGH PROFILE' plays the converted MKV files at a very fast speed on my PlayOn!HD on a 2TB Hitachi HDD.
I have converted 47 files - 13 of which played incorrectly.
I have re-done all 13 files in 0.9.4 so far and all play correctly.
The files show the same behaviour when being played on the internal 2TB HDD, 500GB USB or from a 8GB USB stick but on a PC with VLC they play OK.

 Re: MKV playing too fast
ok, Handbrake 0.9.4 kindof works.. Now , 0.9.5 is out , and voila , there is the problem again. Fast forward a movie , and when I hit play again the movie just spins off in some undefined tempo ..

Is there really no one else with this problem ? What are everybody else encoding with ?
I have trouble beliving this is a handbrake problem, every other player i try handles this file without a hitch..
Anyone ?
