Post Favourites, Shortcuts and Skipping
I have an Xtreamer Sidewinder and an Apacer AL460 and am looking for an additional media player for another TV (so we can watch HD video (mainly recorded TV) over my network). Xtreamers are not available here in New Zealand so, though I can get one sent from another country I thought I'd check out locally available products and the Playon!HD Mini2 looks promising. However two functions are very important to me which the Xtreamer has but the Apacer doesn't so can someone please advise if the Playon!HD Mini2 does. I tried to find a full handbook on the ACRyan web site but couldn't.
1. Skip preset amounts of time, such as forward 1 minute and 3 minutes, and back 10 seconds and 1 minute (so we can skip advertisements on recorded TV programmes. I like it much better then fast-forward for this).
2. Favourites or shortcut that can be programmed with a folder on a computer or NAS on my network (so my wife can instantly open the required folder without knowing or understanding the folder structure and the different computers on our network).

I trust that it will play the combination of mpeg-4 h.264 video with AAC or AC3 audio in a .ts container. It looks to me that it will, but that only the 2 version will play the AC3 audio.

Hi,

the Playons are great devices, but it really is a good idea to do some research before buying. Good call :-)

As far as your requirements, i'll try and answer objectively and from my own experiences.

- Skipping. The way you want it to be can easily be done. It has a go-to function (which i don't like).
I personally prefer a 'search bar' like a pc's media player. Unfortunately, they trow this feature out with every new firmware release. Hoping it will return in next releases.

- Shortcuts (or the WAF - Wife acceptance factor). I'll be honoust: not very well implemented. I am a 'techie' so it's not the most important thing for me, but as of now (first release of the new GUI 2.0) shortcuts are really really longcuts, Which means you have to click at least 8 to ten times before you get to the right spot on your network. Doable, but don't expect fast acces (yet). Due to large amounts of user requests i think that ac ryan will implement it in coming firmware releases (women rule the world, after all :-P ).

In conclusion, the playons wil lplay most anything that you throw at it and have very good video output (which made it my choice of player :-) )

Well, hope this helps and good luck choosing.

Pretty sure mine has this feature and I'm on the latest firmware. While watching a video, press left or right on the wheel and hold it down. This starts to move a little cursor along the timeline and you release when at the right point and it eventually skips and starts playing from that point.

Another time a manual would be handy

You might very well be right, there.
I could be mixing it up with the newly released gui2 for the original mini.
Anyway, it's my preference, not the one of the topic starter so this addition is of no importance to him ;-)
