Post Playon not visible in workgroup
I upgraded to 4824, which repaired BT. But now I cannot see the PlayonHD in the workgroup. NAS is switched on. If I change my computer's Workgroup into anything else (not "workgroup") I can see this workgroup in the Playon browser, and it is even possible to browse the computer's shares. Changing the workgroup back to "workgroup" makes it disappear. Then there is only "My Neighbours", but this is completely empty. But more important: I cannot reach the PlayonHD from my computer anymore. Typing in \\PlayonHD\HDD1 also doesn't work. Pinging works, as does the web interface, so the network is fine. It looks like a Samba problem. Please help, because I use the Playon as network storage.

Hi

I also have this problem from time to time . I then have to switch off one or 2 or all the pc's and let the system reboot . I am not sure what is the problem , tried to reset the adsl router - DHCP server - that does not help .

Cheers

The Playon received an IP address, later I gave it a manual address (in the proper range). After having switched off the PlayonHD completely, power off, the thing was visible again, but when I wanted to browse I couldn't connect. Everything else works fine: I can connect with a browser, BT works better than ever, I fTP'd with Filezilla (I had to, flle transfer via the webpage is very limited) , I made a telnet connection.

The only thing that doesn't work is browsing through the network with my Windows (7) computer. But as I keep a lot of files on the 2TB disk that's very inconvenient.

try to give it ipnumbers out of the dchp range or edit the spool so that start with a higher ipnumber then wat you added mannually

Post Re: Playon not visible in workgroup
I did give the PlayonHD an ip adress outside the auto range. Somtimes -after a reboot- the playon shows itself in WORKGROUP . but when I try to access the hd. it fails "the device refused connection", With the original firmware I never had problems with the NAS functionality. I upgraded because the BT function suddenly stopped functioning properly. Reading though the forum I see more people having troubles with the NAS. It has to do with the latest "release candidate" firmware.

Plzz flash it to 4318 with the safe mode methode
Then flash it thru the menu (Normal method) to 3582
Then flash it to 4824 normal method

Flash methods explained.

Follow the instructions below to update your Firmware for the Playon!HD:

Standard updating of firmware

Download the latest firmware from our download section or our latest beta version from our forums.
Unzip your downloaded zip onto an empty USB stick. Make sure that the files within the zip are unzipped within the root of the USB stick.
Put your USB stick into one of the USB ports of the Playon!HD.
Startup your Playon!HD if it not already on.
In the menu, go to Setup, choose System, then go to System Update and select the option System Upgrade.
Your Firmware Update will now be progressed. Do not shup down your Playon!HD while the Playon!HD is processing your Firmware Update. The Playon!HD will reboot automatically.
After the Playon!HD has rebooted, your new Firmware is installed.

If you are unable to access your main menu, please proceed as follows (this also installs the extensions):

Safe-Mode Reflash

Download the latest firmware from our download section or our latest beta version from our forums, also download the extensions.
Unzip your downloaded zips onto an empty USB stick. Make sure that the files within the zips are unzipped within the root of the USB stick.
Disconnect the power cable from the Playon!HD.
Put your USB stick into one of the USB ports of the Playon!HD.
Push the power button and hold it pushed.
Connect your power cable again.
Hold the power button pushed until you get a screen which says that the firmware is updating.
Do not release the power button between the time of connecting the power cable and the appearing of the screen.
After firmware update the Playon!HD will reboot itself, with the extensions installed and you're done.

Then activate nas mode assign a static ipnumber or dchp and let me know if that worked.

try following Jos:

switch off the player the router and the pc,
all also disconnected form the poweroutlet,

now first restart the router and wait approximately 30 seconds,
then restart the pc which you use for sharing.

if this one is also fully restarted switch on the player,
switch off the nas function in the player and switch it back on again,
do the same with the BT function.

then is misc setupscreen,
there is an option of prtecting acces of any kind (don`t really know what for, haven`t used it yet)
and make sure that one as well as the password are switch off (disabled).

if this all does not help,
reinstall the r4824 again like Kraakie suggested
but unpack the zip file on the pc,
then copy the install.img to an usb thumbdrive on the root of it.

;)

Post Re: Playon not visible in workgroup
Dirk and Kraakie,

Tried Dirk's method first, easy enough, but no luck. Kraakie's recipe worked.

I have given the playon a fixed ip address (10.0.0.5) while the computers get one in the range 10.0.0.32 and upwards from the router's DHCP.

Switched BT and NAS on, left FTP off (don't need that when NAS works).

I hope it's stable (it worked before it broke last time), but anyhow, now I know how to fix it.

Thanks!
