Hi Eugene,

I cant take the suspense and went ahead to update the firmware. Am I glad to see the difference... no more audio gap.. yay. Now the highlighted selection is legible unlike before due to the color scheme.. another yay. The right audio channel of Digital 8 was also fixed.... before that it was spewing garbage.... Tried out RMVB, I must say its not perfect but watchable. Did noticed some jerking but still watchable. My only problem is not being able to play MP4. Is there a restriction on MP4 formats ? How come my MP4 files kept coming up as invalid format.

Also for the higher resolution RMVB, can it still be streamed using the Transcoder as before ? The higher processing power requirement could be handle by the desktop or a laptop. Not that this is ideal but at least as a way to make it watchable. I dont have a high resolution RMVB to test out. Mebbe later.. haha.. ;)

I've JUST upgraded my player. Below are my observations:
1. All schedules reset
2. All analog channels reset
3. That funny web page hosted by the player still exists...
4. No perceptible audio mute on channel 5

I've set the scheduler to do daily recording. Let's see if this device will shutdown again after recording.

I currently have Firmware Ver. 6.2.1262UO(613)
I would like to update to Firmware Ver. 6.2.1262UO(758)

Here is my problem. all usb dongles I own work just fine via the PlayOn when reading the information under menu/browser/usb.
With a clean formatted USB dongle and the 6 files required to upgrade Firmware Ver. 6.2.1262UO(613) to Firmware Ver. 6.2.1262UO(758) I get "Error Board: Invalid Hardware!"
I have tried formatting several USB dongles in FAT,FAT32,exFAT and NTFS with no success.

Can anybody elaborate on what I am doing wrong?

Thanks in advance :(

*EDIT*
Disregard. I found the problem. Apparently PlayOn does not like to upgrade Firmware when you have a HDMI cable connected. Several tests prove this.

How is a person with only HDMI supposed to upgrade the firmware in this case? Quite a painful experience...

It doesn't matter if you have connected up via Composite/Component/HDMI while updating the firmware. Even if there is no connection out, the update will still continue and restart the unit after the process has completed.

But just out of curiousity, I've just tried flashing 3 times using each connection type, Composite, Component and HDMI on our Sharp LCD TV. No errors whatsoever.

You will only get the error, "Error Board: Invalid Hardware!" when you use an incorrect firmware.

Bro, perhaps your MP4 files are encoded using an unsupported codec like H.264 or MJPEG?

Now this is what I call good technical support! It's good to know the product people check out the claims made by the users.

Yeah, you are right, its H.264. Actually most hi def MP4 are H.264 encoded which kind of limit the range of file this player can support.

Must be my PlayOn then cause I just tried it another three times to flash it while connected to my Hannspree (HF289H) Monitor via HDMI 2 connection with the same error. This could be caused by my Monitor or human error but it works every time I disconnect my HDMI and wait for my PlayOn to do its magic. Regardless, PlayOn updates without any connection. :)

Hi Eugene,
Is this firmware compatible with Playon! DVR :: ACR-PV72100? Iguess no? Will you release a new firmware for Playon! DVR :: ACR-PV72100? coz I think at least the rmvb and mkv playback feature is something we all longing for and something you also promosed to provide for the model! I bought it at Sitex and it's about 4 months' time only. The support period has not expired yet!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think the rmvb playback will rely on the hardware difference between DVRTV and DVR?

Hi Eugene,

The timer scheduling only allows 8 slots to be set currently. Can I suggest in the future firmware to come, can the number of slots be increased to maybe 16 (2 page). I seem to be running out of slots to set 1 week worth of scheduled recording. Hope this can be considered.

Thanks.

Eh... do you mean "standby" (red light is activated on the front panel) and not "shutdown"?

Actually, b4 I upgraded to the new firmware, I have observed that the DVR performs auto standby after each scheduled recording. (It prompts for a confirmation for auto standby, default at OK.) The new firmware does the same too... so no change to this behaviour.

Hi Euguene and co,

After trying out the new firmware for sometime, I have made a few observations, hope you guys can take a look into it

1) The wrong length of time recorded still occurs. I had 2 occurrences in past 2 weeks, much lesser than on the previous firmware. First time it occur, it was set to record 31 mins but it recorded 61mins. Second time, it was set to record 61 mins but it only recorded 31 mins. It is 2 out of about 20 over recordings.

2) When there is background recording, the plackback will hit "ultra slow state" if you fast forward or watch the show normally. This "ultra slow state" can be restore by pressing "pause" then "playback at 3/4 speed" then "play".
Occurs quite frequently if you playing back with a background recording.

3) Is it possible to switch off the wifi dongle if it is not in used? Currently the wifi dongle is powered on even it is not in use and it gets quite hot after sometime. Now i only plug it in if i want to use it to prevent it from spoiling due to overheating, quite inconvenient.

Hope you guys can take a lot at these problems.

Hi, this firmware is not compatible with the previous model, ACR-PV72100. The built in RMVB player in this new firmware for ACR-PV72100TV is kind of software driven, thus it is limited to support maximum resolution of 640x480 for RMVB files.

Hardware wise, both DVR models are using the same chipset and do not natively support RMVB file types. You are right to say the RMVB playback (software) does not rely on any hardware differences (since there is really no difference). However, we are unable to built this RMVB player into the previous model because of the limited ROM size. The tuner model has a larger ROM size, that's why we are able to integrate this feature into our new firmware.

Hi Hong Jia,

No promise but I'll try to forward this request for consideration. ;)

I think we spoke on this before, but there isn't such feature to record to an external NAS via network. Only choices are between the internal HDD or an external USB storage device.

Bro, seriously... We would really like to have a check on your DVR because there isn't any problems we can find on our side but you constantly have similar problems despite that we have released a new firmware to resolve certain issues. Well we understand that you may not be able to come down to us during our operating hours but perhaps you can get someone to come down on your behalf?

As for the wifi dongle, it will be instantly active once you plugged into the host USB port. It works the same if you attached the same dongle on a PC. Once the drivers are loaded, the dongle will stay active regardless if it's been used or not. Indeed I agree the dongle can get quite hot after a while, but it will not cause any damage to it or the DVR.

Hi Eugene,
Thanks for reply! What you told is the same as what I have discovered so far. ;)

Based on the information found from Internet, I've managed to add a FTP server into the image, add Chinese menu and remove other languages except English,...after that there's only 2kB of ROM space left.

I'm even able to flash the video_firmware from the TV model to the old model, so if there's a way to run the new RMVB player from HDD, playback of RMVB will be possible.

Eugene, Thanks for the reply.

Does the second problem occurs with your sets? I agree no one watch the video when recording but it is like I was recording serial, so i was watching the past episodes that i missed while the set is recording the ongoing episodes. I try to find time to bring my set down, you guys don't open on Saturday mornings right? So far only 2 recording went bad.
