A new firmware version has been released for the Playon!DVR TV with some updates from Realtek that improve on certain schedule recording bugs that some users are experiencing.
http://www.acryan.com/downloads/Firmware_PV72100TV_6.2.1262UO(866).zip

The change log remains the same as our previous 842 version, as there are no major changes except for some codes to improve on the schedule recording.

We would like to have your feedback if this version works for you.

I just installed all this on my PV72100.
These are the first and only things I checked...
#1 it erased all the channel settings. Maybe a backup feature to USB before install?
#2 My settings are for Ireland. I have to change from Pal B/G to Pal I to get sound.
#3 Will not play HD 720p .mkv :(

I just "tried" to record a game from ATV. The entire first half was on PAUSE and I did not know it.

The red light should blink when set to PAUSE.
The icon should stay on screen (smaller) when set to PAUSE.

Unfortunately the UPNP does not work properly. All multimedia files are recognized with double extension as unsupported format files (for example: movie.avi.avi). Please fix the UPNP !!!!

Hi,

I've installed the new firmware successfully. But unfortunally I have to say that the recording bugs are still present in this firmware release.

The bug is that for some scheduled recordings the recording stops to early, while the recording history states Ok. For example I had scheduled a movie with a length of 3:00 hours, but the recording stopped at 1:05 hours. Sometimes recording has correct length and sometimes not. This is very frustrating, you can imagine that a half recorded movie is worthless.

I really hope this can be fixed soon.

Kind regards,
Berthold

The problem is not just the recorded movie. It's the whole system.
If I want to schedule something I must put my DVDRecorder because the ACRyan is unreliable=worthless.
The firmware releases means that probably noone knows what is the problem and they can't afford to spend manhours to fix it.
The problem is so obvious that with 1 week of testing everyone could spot it. The solution is another matter..

My problem is still that I spend a lot of money for a medium media player & since I already owned a better media player my loss is double because I must find and buy a decent Hard Disk recorder now...

So, so far I just have a VERY expensive TV tuner (MPEG-2 only not even MPEG-4) and medium media player...

@ACRyan : Please pay better attention to your products... I guess PlayOn!HD will have the same bad technical support in 2-3 months...

:(

@faganas: I do not totally agree with you. I'm quite pleased with the PlayON!DVR TV. It is a cheap device with lots of features, one of it's kind. Only the recording scheduler is unreliable.

Erm, I think the main function of this DVR is to record TV programs to a HDD and if you are there to press the record button, you probably wouldn't need this DVR.

If the recording scheduler is not working properly, it defeats the VERY PURPOSE that many of us bought this item for.

Faganas, try recording to an USB external drive. It seem slightly "more reliable" than recordings to the built in drive.

Here's my encounter. If I set multiple scheduled recordings with different duration, the recorder screws up !

I've resorted to set 1hr recording for all recordings and so far, it no longer get erratic like 32min, 1:05min recordings.

It seems that internally the recorder is picking up the wrong duration somehow.

Hm.. disappointing to see that always-on NAS is still not part of the new adds :(

Since this is such a much sought after feature, and we are aware of the limitations of the hardware not being capable enough to multi-task, perhaps you should just slap it on with a warning label and leave it up to the users to choose to enable or to disable it?

From my observation I've noted is that the copying of content across medium, such as copying 30GB of videos from a thumbdrive vs dumping the same set of 30GB files into the DVR-TV via NAS, it is very significantly faster to move files across the NAS (days vs hours).

This is the reason why I would so look forward to have my NAS always on.

Please please do something about it! Thanks!

Hi,

Since last month I also have the same timer problem with recordings. The scheduled recordings seem to shuffle their durations. I did not have this problem untill I switched on the internet time synchronization.
Does anyone notice the same ? I'm gonna put off the time synchronization for a while and hope this problem disappears. Keep you posted..

The timer bug is still there. I have programmed some daily recordings which do work very well. If I add another schedule it is using the lenght from the first entry.
Example:
First existing entry: starting time 17:00, duration 1:15
Second existing entry: srtatung 22:00 duration 1:17
adding a new schedule at 20:00 with length of 1:30 results in a recording of 1:15 duration

It seems to be a simple bug in the timer table (which occurs to my knowledge on all similar devices from other brands).

Another failure will occure if you change the time via telnet during a recording session - even if you correct only some secondes, the recording will abort too early (several minutes). OK, that is not the normal way to correct the time, but it might indicate the source of the problems to the firmware developer.

The EPG is buggy, too. If a station has a lot of short programms during one day, you cannot see the whole days broadcasts (e.g. last entry is from 17.30 to 18.00 o'clock, the rest of the entries for the day are not visible).

New timer problem today:
I have two daily recorderings. First recording has a programmed runtime of 1:25 hours, second one 1:17hours. Yesterday the recording was ok, I made no changes, today the first recording had a lenght of 1:17 (it used the programmed length of the second entry).

There is a serious bug in handling of the timer table.

Same problem today. My weekly record should have had a lenght of 3:01, but it used the time of the second entry in the list (1:25).
Additionally it does no time sync with the time servers - at the moment the clock goes 5 seconds behind every day. I had expected it would sync to the time server at every start of the box and not only during the setup process.

Hi the result is astonishing..
I have set the time manually without internet synchronization, and after that all recordings (about 10) with different durations went OK ! The best check now is to switch back to internet sychronization, but as everything runs well now I leave that test to you.
I'm not complaining no more..

Hi,

I've noticed that MP4 is also not support in this release as well. Not sure it it works on previous release?
Any reason why they remove rm/rmvb support in this release? I thought a newer release should normally add new codec support...? :geek:
