Re: Mini with External HDD
According to a local product support site ( http://forum.fpo.hu/viewtopic.php?f=28&t=55
) there are some tested external HDD cases in which the HDD shuts down when the Mini is turned off (standby mode) thanks to the internal electronic circuit board built into these cases:
-Revoltec File Protector SATA 3,5" (RS066)
-Revoltec AluBook II SATA, eSATA 3,5" (RS057)
-Revoltec AluGuard SATA, eSATA 3,5" (RS047)
-Revoltec AluBook IDE 5.25" - (for DVD / CD-ROM)
I believed it and I bought one of the "recommended and tested" cases.
This is a Revoltec AluBook II SATA, eSATA 3,5" (RS057).
It turned out that Mini can't shut down the HDD when I turn the POHD Mini off with the remote control.
My Samsung Ecogreen 1,5TB HDD HD154UI 5400rpm just keeps on spinning at 5400rpm.
After turning the Mini off with the remote, I have to walk to the HDD case and I also have to turn it off with its small power switch at the back of the case. After turning back the case on it stays in standby mode until I turn the Mini on next time. This process is not so elegant and a little bit frustrating not to mentoin I was cheated.
Here is an external HDD which really goes into standby mode after 5 minutes inactivity according to the manufacturer (I didn't check it yet): Samsung Story Station HX-DU015EB
I'm wondering how is it possible to switch off the HDD technically correctly (no data loss or HDD damage)?
Do I really have to turn off that small switch every time (disconnecting DC 12V)?
May I switch off the AC 230V outlet (it also has a switch)?
How dou you do it day by day?
I think going to the case each time is ridicolous.
