If that happens flash the firmware again using safe-mode. Also please do note down your hdd model and tell us which one it is.

best regards,

Hi,
I've tried a couple of re-flash the firmware, but don't help. I'm using Samsung 2TB Model HD204UI. Before the incident happen, i noticed that the HD size stay at 2TB even i am having like 30+ movies on it.

Cheers,
Peter

Post Re: Format HDD
I recently purchased a PV73700 PlayOn HD2. I think it had firmware version v9.5.3.r3966.

It could not see a WD Cavier Black 2 TB (WD2002FAEX) drive. It briefly saw a Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 1.5 TB and also Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 1.5 TB (which I installed consecutively) but when powered down and rebooted, it couldn't see the Seagate drive(s).

I installed firmware version v9.5.3.r5311. It settled down with the Seagare Barracude 1 TB drive and pretty much worked perfectly. Have to say I was bitterly disappointed that it cld not see the WD 2 TB drive which I had specifically purchased for the PlayOn HD2. However, it was working with the 1 TB Seagate .... but I didn't trust it, so kept a back-up of whatever I put on the drive.

Yesterday I installed firmware version v9.5.3.r5440. It now doesn't see ANY drive what-so-ever out of the three I have listed above. Glad I kept the back-up!!

However, I've got to say that all the other issues with the PlayOn HD2 that I have experienced, eg YouTube stability, have gone away, so that is good. Thank you AC Ryan for that.

Wld really love the HDD issue to be sorted. Gotta be AC Ryan's highest priority.

I've give up using the Samsung 2TB drive and got a WD 1TB. I have used a PC to format the HD with NTFS format. Tested couple of days, glad no issue encounter except on and off still getting hang..

Re,

ok if the above solutions didn't work and the HDD still make problems you could possibly check the production date of the drive. Drives produced before 12/2010 i believe need a firmware upgrade which you can obtain from the samsung homepage. Make sure you have the newest patch since there have been issues with those kind of HDD models when it comes to writing / recognizing.

Patch can be found here: http://www.samsung.com/global/business/ ... msg_id=386

NOTE: be carefull with a firmware upgrade since this might result in data loss. So backup first than update!

best regards,

Post Re: Format HDD
As mentioned earlier, I upgraded the firmware r5440 and PlayOn HD2 could no longer see my HDD.

So -

I powered down the unit, un-plugged the power supply, counted to 10.

Removed the HDD (Seagate 1 TB)

I re-installed the firmware up-grade r5440 inthe normal manner

I re-formatted the HDD on my PC using a docking station.

I powered down again

Inserted the HDD

Re-booted the PlayOn

The PlayOn saw the HDD.

I'm happy again!!

I guess my disappointment was that I cld not get my HD2 to see a WD Black Cavier 2 TB HDD.

Further to my earlier post, I re-installed the latest firmware.

I purchased another WD Black Cavier 2 TB drive. Installed it.

Re-booted, but this time, had considerable patience! It took about 30 seconds - it seemed an age - the HD2 saw the drive, re-formatted it, installed it.

It works perfiectly and consistently.
