[How to] install r3400 and remove partitions and reformat
How to install r3400 and remove partitions and reformat.First download the zip file containing the firmware:
" FW R3400 fifth yamj Trial "
Try to use a usb stick which is formated as either Fat32 or Fat. unpack the zip file with the firmware on your computer, and copy the unpacked "install.img" to the usb stick.
after this you have to upgrade to r3400_(European)_YAMJ_Trial by the setup menu of your player. go to "setup-->system-->system upgrade-->select upgrade system after this is done, go and remove the partitions.
Now we have to remove the partitions
It`s a bit of work.
First connect your playonhd to your pc by using the delivered usb-cable. Then when after approxymately 30 seconds windows sees the drive.
Remember!! You`ll have to make a backup of all your data couse it will be lost.
After this, You go to start, then point your mouse on the icon computer or my computer, (depending wich windows version you have) then right click on this icon. there will be a menu rolled out in this menu you select management or managing. (i`m not sure i translated it right),
Once this is opened find storage open it and select disk management. Then search in this window for the disk from the playon.
Like drive 7 in this example picture.

There you see on this disk four partition`s. Remove them all !!!!!
After it is done disconnect your playon and connected it back to your tv-set.
Then after the Playon is connected again to the TV screen, it will ask for a format HDD here you confirm. if for any reason the question does not come then go to "setup-->system-->hdd format" and press the ok button on your remote, it`s the one in the middle of the four arrow buttons. now select to format HDD1. and again press ok. and confirm the question asked.

Re: [How to] install r3400 and remove partitions and reformat
Can you post the new partition setup after re-formating in firmware# 3400?
I have only one HDD and want to know the benefit of re-formatting.
Maybe I'll try to do w/o re-formating if it's just partition resizing?

Maybe I'll try to do w/o re-formating if it's just partition resizing? I did the upgrade without fortmat, all works fine after some tweaking, but the POHD seems a bit slower in reaction.

Re: [How to] install r3400 and remove partitions and reformat
Nothing much, the beta i tested just had some startup problems, screen size, picture format, sound settings etc. The would all change on every reboot.. my "tweaking" basically consisted of resetting everything and rebooting after each reset, after 3-4 times all setting stayed stable.... Only problem left, is that the POHD reacts slower then it used to.
But Dirkga has a HOWTO for that (it DOES involve a full format!!)
And Kraak is working on a way around the full Format. We will post it as soon as we worked it out and tested it (if at all possible).

Re: [How to] install r3400 and remove partitions and reformat
i would love to state, that formating the hdd and removing the partitions is best if done as in the first post of this topic. as it is how Eugene described it. will try a other way as well and if that works i will post it here to, in the first post. but then again a full format really is the best to do. making workarounds i do not know if that helps a lot in the long run. i did follow this " [HOW TO] Reinstall extensions and solve internal hdd issues! "myself and never had any of the problems, stated on this forum except for the tag problem and the samba problem in r3294. so it seems that in this FW doing the full format (without any telnet session) so removing the partitions by a disk manager. is needed for stability.. but i will test if after removing the partitions, and first formating the drive under a disk manager as one partition, then when putting it in the pohd and do a manual install , will also work as in former FW it was stabler.

Re: [How to] install r3400 and remove partitions and reformat
it would be very good if the official firmware would work without hdd-format. It's simply a pain to backup data and transfer it back.....

Re: [How to] install r3400 and remove partitions and reformat
Apparently it has something to do with: some changes on the scanning / detection of SATA hard drive on r3400. We have a test set in the office, we found out that, using r3400 to format hard disk, apparently it would response faster.
That's why we recommend format with the 3400FW.
But it is ultimately your own choise, it will also work without the format, it just takes a bit longer to startup (total in my setup appr. 35secs).
