I have sold my PlayonHD today to a friend because I was merely using it as a NAS lately. I bought the device to replace my XBOX which had xbmc on it. Finally I was able to play HD movies.
When I had a bit more cash at hand I decided to buy a HTPC with an Intel Core i5.
That one is now in full use ( iMDB / TVdb - scraping, subtitle download, 3D-interface) and it runs 3 vmware machines in the background (2 x Linux & Windows 2000).

I replaced my 1.5 TB PlayonHD with 2 2TB-harddisks... one internal and the other one external with E-Sata/USB.

The 'ryanopt' script is a spin-off of 2 other projects (1 for DD-WRT and the other for the WD Mybook).
If there are issues, especially if something is broke, I will fix them.
Just don't expect new developments.

Thanks for the ride.....

Frater Thanks for all you did for us guys on the Forum!!
Thanks for all your work.
Too bad we lost you as developer/user.
Good luck with your new HardWare (and probably new developements.. :grinning: )

Hope to see you back here some day, as there will be probably new hardware in the future you will like...

Groetz van Koets.

Hello,
I hope this is the right place for this post.
I'm thinking about buying an AC Ryan PlayOn! HD with hard disk. But I want to make sure that it is possible to control the system via my netbook or pc. I've read a lot about optware. And found out that there are a lot of packages to install: list.
At the bottom I found: "NOTE: The complete package list is available at http://ipkg.nslu2-linux.org/feeds/optware/nslu2/.
In there I saw: libvncserver_0.9.1-2_armeb.ipk
Does this mean I would be able to install this VNC-server package and remote connect via vnc to play music?
Bart

Hi Bart,
An easy way to control yr POHD with PC/Laptop/netbook/smartphone, is through InfoSite (see the link in my siggy, and read up), you can also use this to instal optware...
With thanks to Mikka and others.

If I install optware, what will happen with the bit torrent stuff which is running on the PlayOn by default?

Before I installed optware through infosite, i paused all active torrents and restarted them afterwards, no problem.

BTW: I installed opware only to install a ftp server, didn't try to switch to transmission (yet...)

Alright that sounds good, I thought transmission was installed & started with optware automatically, but I guess I misunderstood. I will try to install optware via InfoSite also. I will also start a new thread on this forum about transmission vs the pre-installed BT client.

Hey,
I installed optware, but it seems like it is removed after every reboot, because if I install optware and reboot my pohd, I have to install it again.
I've got another problem, if I install mpd using infosite my pohd freezes and I have to reboot (and to reinstall optware  )
Would like to get some help.

P.S. I'm using firmware r4318

I've tried to install optware from both the ryanopt script and from PlayonHD InfoSite. I always get the following error:

Code:

ryanopt: cd: 141: can't cd to /opt/bin
ryanopt: ryanopt: 141: ipkg-opt: not found
Optware installation was not successfull...  exit!

The important part of the error is "Connection refused" to ipkg.nslu2-linux.org.

Any ideas?

Sometimes their server is down. I've checked it a minute ago and it's again offline.

If you need any package urgently, I can upload it and send you the link.

I have managed to install infosite and also the ryanopt stuff.
It seems that SSH, Midknight Commander and Transmission are operational.

But how can I change the settings of Transmission in particular?
I tried editing the settings.json file but after a reboot, all settings are returned to their defaults. Even if I do the following:
/bin/mount -o,remount,rw /
#edit file, save#
/bin/mount -o,remount,ro /
reboot

The settings.json file is located in /opt/home/transmission/.config/transmission-daemon/settings.json
Whereas /opt is located in /tmp/hdd/root

update:
It seems that I was a bit wrong on this one.
The service itself seems to contain the actual settings that are written to the harddrive (thus overwriting my hand made settings) when the service is shutting done.
Best way to modify the settings.json is via the webinterface I guess.
