Re: Which USB Wifi Dongle do YOU use?
He lied, I just checked the driver and the chipset is a Ralink RT2870
It must be a Realtek RTL8192S chipset and de best way to check it is the driver .inf file, I did it with my TRENDNET TEW649UB WiFi-N 300 Mbps.

Quote: TRENDNET TEW649UB WiFi-N 300 Mbps. I've just ordered it, I'll confirm if it works for me too It's indeed cheaper than the official one(found for 23€ on a French site) Fingers crossed

Re: Which USB Wifi Dongle do YOU use?
I'm using a no brand USB WIFI Dongle 802.11n (RTL8191SU). It is ok to play normal file from network, like mp3, mpg, avi. But if play mkv file, Half HD is ok. DVD ISO & 720P lag abit, 1080P super lag.. Using Belkin N1 Wireless Router (F5D8231). 1 thing I don't understand is, if I play the 720P & 1080P movie from my notebook, it is very smooth and no lag at all. Fyi, all these movie mkv file are stream from my storage server, connected with 100Mbps LAN cable. Then WIFI connect to my notebook & AC Ryan. My notebook no lag but AC Ryan lag.. I suspect AC Ryan firmware no fully utilize the WIFI setting. Hopefully the next firmware can solve this issue..

ASUS USB-N11 does not work.
I have recently played on my laptop over WiFi a HD file without any problem using a WRT 54G R3.1 router, a Synology NAS and a Laptop. I increased the buffer to 64MB and everything was OK. Movie start was delayed a bit, for the buffer to fill, and scrolling was slow. I think that 32MB would work too but haven't tested. A very large buffer could have other effects, delaying the movie start.
I tested with killa.sampla and it wasn't going smoothly. Considering that killa.sampla is a rare case I can say that Wireless-G is OK for HD, if the buffers are tweaked. The only problem is how much RAM the "mini" has and how to adjust the buffers.
Regards, Vali.

D-link DWA-140 doesn't work too! When I plugged it into my playonHD mini, it didn't even lid up. will there be a firmware update to support all these USB wireless adaptors in the future? Hope it can be implemented asap.

Hi,
I tried a Sitecom WL-329 dual band N adapter. It didn't work in the POHD.

Got a Trendnet TEW-648UB, works flawlessly. As a side note, it gets HOT!

Re: Which USB Wifi Dongle do YOU use?
I bought the PlayOn HD mini at the weekend - also bought the WiFi dongle that goes with it - it works ok. I have it connecting to a no brand wireless access point ( 802.11 G only). Its probably around 3 or 4 metres in a straight line up through a timber ceiling floor from the Playon to the WAP. I notice that the signal doesnt show 100% - probably 80% - but seems to play ok.
I previously had a mediagate MG-350HD that had a nice little black stubby aerial about 15cm long - it always showed 100% signal. The little USB aerial is quite small and I guess perhaps not as sensitive.
Is there perhaps a plan to have a slightly bigger unit available or are there any larger (aerial part) USB WiFi dongles that use the right chip?
