 The big, "firmware developing", topic.
In this topic you can drop your comments suggestions and other stuff about the firmware developing for the Playon!hd, Playon!hd mini and the Playon DVR HD. Keep this topic free of flames bad language etc. this topic is created so everyone can discuss about the firmware development (as the topic says), it is not been made to keep track of bugs. actually it is done to keep comments about the firmware development away, from the release forums and topics so the development, does not have to read the entire topics and comments about what is done in development, but concentrate on the bugs mentioned by users in the release topics. As ACryan releases firmwares for more then one player, it is hard to find a good place to put this topic in, that is why it is placed here, it will be made a sticky for everyone to find it a bit easier. (which is asked by several members) but lets make it clear this is not a bugreport topic, bugs should still be reported in the corresponding release topic of that firmware for the player at hand. but for any comment about the development of the firmware, do place them here (of course in a mature manner ) if the comment is supposed to report a bug do it in the release topic as said. it will give the development team, an easier to read firmware release topic in which they can see which bugs are still at hand, instead of reading all kinds of posts about how well or how bad the development is going, which is also important to know, as customers are certainly very important as is their comments, so this thread is also being read by acryan staff as well, it is most certainly not for hiding away these comments please do understand, that we are a very open community, and all reactions are welcome, the good and the bad (but again in a mature manner written)

My 2 cents: Startpost misses two ',', which would make it easier for non-native English readers to comprehend.

Re: The big, "firmware developing", topic.
I'd like to start off by stating that I'd prefer these 'Interim' betas to be released on a regular basis, maybe 2-3 weeks apart or something? Whilst internal testing determines if the firmware is harmful for people willing to try the beta firmwares, the beta should be there for people to report all issues. My current wishlist, in order, is as follows:
1. Get the firmware stable, fixing all hangs to do with image loading etc. 2. Add shortcuts to specific directories (come on it cant be that difficult, can it?). 3. Add support for compressed MKV headers (I know your waiting for Realtek). 4. TV support on YAMJ and maybe some other minor YAMJ improvements. 5. Improve the GUI (Create a nice HD interface with placeholder images then get a decent artist to create the images for you).
I'm putting YAMJ above the GUI overhall as I beleive YAMJ is the biggest selling point for yourselves, or at least it was for me. YAMJ is brilliant but can defo do with a lot of minor tweaks here and there.

I notice lack of testing structure. I expected way more fixes, the easy ones for example. Like i said in other topic i'm missing the list what has been noticed in previous release and is fixed in this build. If i put things in proportion this final build can take ages for being final/stable. I notice easy things seeing fixed after a long period and if i check the outstanding list of things to be fixed that are way more complex imo, go figure.... Why would realtek release crappy SDK in the first place? And the most concerning thing is the more aggressive behavior on this board. I understand some points of the mods/owners/admins or who ever but sometimes i have the feeling there is some dictatorship around here.

Re: The big, "firmware developing", topic.
as far as i understand, each time a new SDK is released, some bugs that where fixed are back or some extra`s are gone, for the development team then it is time to reprogram them, and sometimes it takes a firmware to make sure they are all handled, therefor we use Beta firmware releases, to know which are definitely fixed or needs some more fixing, sadly we can not say we will not use the new SDK anymore, as they mostly are new because there realtec fixed or handled some issues, only realtec programmers can fix as it is a closed platform (if i am right). but never the less it is a working progress where we do need, the input of the users as well, because there is no way we can test all different hardware with the pohd, and we hope that the users which are using the beta releases will give good bugreports, just to make it easy for the developers and the staff as well as the mods, to read those topics. we decided to make sure only bugs are reported in those threads. that way a bug can be isolated easier and earlier, and we really hope to have a fix for any of them as soon as possible. why not fix the simple ones first and let the hard ones rest, till the simple ones are fixed? i am guessing that fixing the most urgent ones is better, and sometimes the ones urgent for one user is not as urgent as for a other user, for now i guess (in my opinion), the most urgent ones are : the MKV issue, the audio and the buffering (for scrolling through the thumbgen templates and the browser) . for me personally the mp3 playback is a urgent one as well. but in spite of which bug get fixed first, i think due to the development of the firmwares, i have big fate in the development team.

Re: The big, "firmware developing", topic.
I prefer correct bugfixes, this last release is a blame. Others: I prefer usable and usefull functions.. "15. Add HTTP server function, default port 1024 (Setup - Network - Remote Control) a. Access via web browser by keying in http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:1024 b. Upload/Download single file via HTTP (Unneeded ) c. Manage your Movie/Music/Picture playlist d. Bit Torrent management interface (that is nothing new in it) 16. Add FTP Server function, default port 21 (Setup - Network - FTP) (that was in POD ,so nothing new, this isn't a new feature ) a. Configure your own desired username and password b. Access via web browser by keying in c. Access via FTP program on your PC (Preferred method against service disruption) Configure to connect to your local IP address, WAN IP address or DDNS domain name Configure to the same username and password as set on the unit Configure to connect via default port 21 d. Upload/download multiple files via FTP (this isn't working, it isn't usable for FTP uploading or downloading)" Maybe some FAQ for the new features.Other user was complaining about it too.

Re: The big, "firmware developing", topic.
@szgege, about point 16 in your comment, POD is a customised programm to put other programms in the pohd, i am not so happy in changing the original firmware, so i personally am happy this option now is implemented by acryan themselves, instead of doing all kinds of tricks to implement it myself. and i guess more users feel the same way. and for this comment: szege wrote: I prefer correct bugfixes, this last release is a blame. The r4090 is a beta release just to tackle as much bugs as possible, so actually a request for the users to test this release for bugs, so it is possible you are not happy with it ,therefor the beta in the release topic, if you wish to test it we would very much appreciate it, if not it is not a must. it is up to you

Re: The big, "firmware developing", topic.
After all these firmware "updates" I really have the impression that AC Ryan thinks its customers are geeks or unpaid AC Ryan volunteers. If you provide a new firmware, I expect it to work. The numerous mistakes make an embarassing impression. It's really not professional and my next player will definitely not be an AC Ryan. I'm looking for a device which works and is not manufactured by semi professionals. With all due respect, I'm glad AC Ryan doesn't sell cars.
