[HOW-TO] Mount Network shares on the VEOLO and scan them
hi folks,
this little how-to will explain you how to easily mount network shares (in this case Samba shares) onto the internal memory, sdcard, usb stick. If you do this you can 'trick' the player in thinking it is local storage and therefore you will be able to scan those folders as well. Since alot of different apps are unable to browse the network this comes in handy.
As an easy example i use this to mount my DVD Folders from my Ubuntu Server and than with Daroon player i set it's default location to this mountpoint so i can watch DVD's including menu's from my Server. Believe me it sounds more complicated than it is
Things you need:1. rooted VEOLO via z4root (check
viewtopic.php?f=185&t=17117 )
2. cifs manager from android market or from:
http://androiddev.orkitra.com/download/ ... 09869787193. root explorer (i use this to have access to root on the player. It is not needed though but i like it.)
4. usb stick / sdcard / internal storage
How-to:1. install
z4root.apk and root the veolo + reboot
2. install root explorer .apk (this is optional you don't need it to mount
3. install
cifs manager.apk and open it
4. cifs manager:4.1. open it and give it superuser rights permanently (after VEOLO is rooted you can do that:))
4.2. press 'menu' and goto 'settings'
4.2.1. activate 'load cifs module' and eventually set 'mount point prefix' to the location you want it to be mounted in - in my example i use my usb stick (mnt/sda/sda1)
4.2.2. press 'back' and than 'menu' again to choose 'add new share'
4.2.3. set 'share path' to your nas / laptop / pc i.e. '192.168.0.20/movies'
4.2.4. set 'mount point' somewhere on veolos local storage i.e. 'mnt/sda/sda1/movies' in my case for usb stick (folder 'movies' on usb stick will be automatically created)
4.2.5. set username / password and let options empty (i test this with login 'guest' and no password, guest account on computer has to be activated than)
4.2.6. click on 'save share'
4.2.7. now you will see the share in cifs manager and if you click on it, it will mount it
5. (optional) just to be sure you can use now root explorer to check if this directory was successfully mounted - you browse to /mnt/sda/sda1/movies and should see your remote content:)
6. press 'home' and goto SETUP -> SYSTEM -> Storage Management -> Rescan Storage and choose the location where you mounted the folder in my case the usb stick.
6.1. on bottom of the screen click ' start scanning'

Your network location has now been scanned and you can access your files via 'music' 'video player' and 'gallery' from the home screen as well.
This is for testing purposes for now and it will obviously need to rescan this after a reboot since it doesn't build some kind of index. Anyhow scanning via wireless works fast in my test from my ubuntu server as well as from my windows 7 machine.
The downside at the moment is that it will 'loose' the mount after a reboot so you will need to open cifs manager again and just click on your mount and rescan storage. But this is basically just 2 clicks once you setup the CIFS Manager and have rooted your Device.
Suggestions & Questions are always welcome!
