 Re: [Beta] Firmware_Playon!HD Mini2_PV73800_v9.5.5.r6629
Hi,
I updated to this latest firmware and found that the VOBSUB (SUB / IDX) subtitles embedded into an MKV container are still not supported. The subtitles can be selected but nothing is displayed, just like before with the PGS subtitles.
I have over 600 movies now in MKV format which are the "compact" copies (without unnecessary audio tracks and subtitles) of my original DVDs. Needles to say, all of the DVDs have VOBSUB subtitles. It took more than 3 months to release a new firmware which is still not usable. I don't think that I'm the only one with this problem. I'd appreciate if it would be treated as a high priority issue!
And why am I saying that the firmware is not usable? Because rudimentary requirements are not met. I expect a media player to play movies and music and display pictures flawlessly. When it plays movies, I also expect that I can switch on the subtitles (which are in one of today's standard formats). If a media player fails to do any of these, then it is not worthy to be called a media player. A media player should not forecast the weather or display Twitter tweets or connect to Facebook. Why is all this crap in the firmware anyway while basic functionalities are not working? Sounds good from marketing point of view, I guess...
As for the long gap between the release dates of two firmware versions may I suggest some agile software development methods in which you developers work in - let's say - two week long iterations and release something after every iteration? Believe me, frequent releases make customers more happy! You could get immediate feedback from hundreds of users, and even if something is not quite working as expected, the customers would know they only have to wait two more weeks for a possible fix...

As posted and ignored further up the thread I can confirm that this new software is unstable on the sound, every Xvid I play the sound goes off several times during the play and to get it back I have to press pause and allow time for re synch and then play again, I am going to have to return to the previous firmware.

On my TV (over HDMI) it controls the volume properly.
Happens always, but seems like only when playing MKV files. Submitted to bugtracker. Can anyone reproduce?
thanks If you 'passthrough' the movie/video/music the receiver will take control of the stream. Therefore it is normal that you cannot adjust the volume via the HD remote control but only from the receivers remote control. Please do note that this is not a bug but normal behavior. If you want to adjust volume in passthrough mode you have to do it via your receiver (modern tv's support this as well) control. br,

All of this has been discussed numerous times. AC Ryan didn't, don't and won't commit to regular updates. One good thing I noticed was a list of "bugs to be fixed" in the last release. Although they failed to mention the massive problems with NTFS.

You can unpack the FW with this tool: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=KM9BC0NCthen edit the /etc/inetd.conf (snip). Thanks ... but I knew about this already ;-D The reason I 'complained' is that I think it's plain silly to disable telnet by default, even, or maybe especially when it's for a beta release. btw: After I tweeted about this, acryan Europe offered me a (private) download of the same beta but with telnet enabled so if anyone is interested / not opting for the unpack/pack routine, drop a line I do need TelNet to work with my NAS - so if you can point me in the direction of this alternative firmware download then it would be most helpful Thanks

 Re: [Beta] Firmware_Playon!HD Mini2_PV73800_v9.5.5.r6629
I would like to see a proper method to backup settings before a firmware update and then restore settings after update.
I'm getting mighty sick of having to rejoin wireless and change all of my settings plus add my NFS mounts.
If there already is a method then I'm all ears.
