 Network connection issue (cabled)
Yesterday a friend of mine recieved his playon hd mini2. After connecting all cables we started it up, and set the network settings to automatic ip and dns since the POHD is connected to a netgear wndr3700 router. Immediately after saving, a message "test failed" was shown, and no network/internet connection was possible.
After several attempts of saving the automatic settings again, I was fed up with it and give the thing a fixed ip adres of 10.0.0.80, subnet 255.255.255.0, gateway and dns 10.0.0.1 (ip of router). This also didn't work, so I set it back to automatic. Suddenly, after some 10 minutes or so, suddenly an ip adress was shown (10.0.0.8) and we could use the internet connection.
Unfortunately, after a reboot it didn't have an ip adress again. We left the image on the network settings screen for a while, and could see several 169.xxx adresses fly by, so it was trying to get an adress but failed in doing so.
Again, after several minutes it recieved an adress again but as soon as we left the screen and tried to view youtube, this gave a message that there was no network connection and upon checking the settings page again the ip adress had disappeared again. The same thing happened again after another reboot.
Checked/done - The network cable isn't the problem; it is usually in a ps3 and as soon as we reconnect it to the ps3 we are logged in to psn and can go online. - We unplugged the power to the router for several minutes, and started the POHD after the router has completely started up again. - I've reflashed the firmware (5440) that was already on the POHD Now I'm out of ideas.
I hope anyone can give me a hint what to do, else the device will be returned.

 Re: Network connection issue (cabled)
Hello,
I'm sorry to hear about your issue, and thanks for your extensive explanation.
If you already safe-flashed the firmware, you can only confirm if this is a defect item (hardware wise) by connecting the same player to another router or switch to see if this would work. If this is not possible, you should take it back to your store and let them check it there if possible and get a new player if it turns out the player is indeed defect. The wired Ethernet should just work, you can also check the green/yellow led lights in the back when you plugged the cable in, they should be active/blinking and if they are not, then the port/cable is damaged.

 Re: Network connection issue (cabled)
I've taken the POHD with me, so I will connect it to my router when I'm home tonight.
Regarding the firmware flashing: this was done in the 'safe way' as described in the instructions. There is only one led flashing on the back of the POHD, a green one, and it flashes very slowly.

 Re: Network connection issue (cabled)
Update: connected the POHD to my router and tv, and after booting I immediately got in ip adress and was able to go online. Also, now the green network led on the back stayed on while the orange one was blinking.
So, some experimenting to do with other cables I guess....
