Post Can't find NAS/Workgroup and restarts using shortcuts
Hi

I have read somewhere in these forums someone with the same issue, but I can't find it anymore or the possible awnser.

Description of problem:
Overall I haven't had any problems with the player. But lately the player wouldnt always show the subtitle-option and would rarely have a weird picture (stripes).

So I thought i would re-install the firmware in the 'recommanded way' this time. (I have the mini hd2 with the first firmware and I always updated through usb in the menu).
In the recommend way it also factory resets the player. So I did al my settings again and wanted to add my NAS.

It almost never finds the Workgroup. It found it once... so I added the netwerk-shortcut. This way I can always acces my NAS (Synology) Thank god! But it never finds my NAS the "normal" way anymore through file-browser. Also SAMBA never works. Only the network-shortcut works.

I made shortcuts in de main-menu, but then it shows "succesfully logon" for a millisecond and then restarts the player.

Does anyone know how I can make this AC Ryan find my NAS again in every way, like it did before the "full-firmware-reinstall"? It fixed my subtitle problem... but it is a NAS player and the shortcuts in de main-menu are very importent, since the player doesnt index the NAS like a HDD attachment... :(

I restarted and unplugged the player, switch, router and NAS many times, but the HD Mini 2, is the only one that has and keeps this problem.

Thanks in advance.

That is indeed a very strange behavior. Did you check your cables and eventually try another one? There might be something wrong in your network setup. You can try to flash to r5311 and check if the same issue persists.
If you cannot fix this by upgrading firmware or re-checking your network setup i would recommend to return the unit since it might also have faulty hardware.

cheers,

Post Re: Can't find NAS/Workgroup and restarts using shortcuts
Well it all happend after the "recommend update". So I still think is something in the software.

Weird thing is.. I installed .5311 and even .2073. Both as "usb update" and "recommend update".
I treid all kinds of settings for my router... reset the dhcp ip... reinstall firmware.. everything...

I even updated my Synology NAS... Restarted media services... reset settings for samba and Windows Filesystem. But still the same problems.

Weird thing is that my TV and Laptop always finds my NAS. But the AC Ryan hd mini 2 only finds my NAS 1 in 50 times or so. BUT it always find the workgroup and upnp when my laptop is on... which also connects to WORKGROUP. Then everything is fine...

So does somebody has a last idea or suggestion?

NAS> Synology 410J (DSM 3.2-1994)
Router> DLink dir-655 (v1.35 EU)

@ ACRyan
IF I sent the unit back for "repairs", how will I explain this in the proces? Great change they will only flash the firmware, do a check, and sent it back... And should i sent it to the retailer? or directly to acryan?

Usually your warranty lies at your vendor since you have the contract of purchase with him. Also the procedure goes much quicker than directly over us. If you still want to send it here contact our RMA department at rma (at) acryan.com if you're located in europe.
You can also give a link to this topic in your error description so our department knows you've been in contact with us already.

P.s. on your NAS can you goto Disk Manager and check your NFS/MAC/Win sharing settings. Do you see a point called something like 'optimize for cifs' ? You could try enabling this and check it again.

best regards,

best regards,

Yes i have that setting "ON" from the beginning. I also tried other settings... and "re-enabling". Didn't help :(

I live in Holland, so thats no problem. But then ill send it to my vendor... I know it is legally also the best option, but most of the time it could be easier and faster to directly send it to manifacture... But ill send it to mij vendor... But that would probaly be next week.

Thanks!

Re the browsing issue, do you have an option on your NAS box to enable it to act as a browser master? The lack of one would certainly explain why you can't browse when your PCs are turned off.

I don't know whether the Mini can act as a browser master by default, but if the above isn't an option, try turning on NAS mode on the Mini if it's not on already - enabling SMB sharing might also enable LBM functionality.

Hope that helps,

Ray Von

Question to AC Ryan support - can you confirm if the Mini 2 requires a separate browser master?

I'm pretty sure I've read a few people mention that they can't browse when using NAS boxes so it might be a good idea to explain to people that this isn't actually a fault with the Mini and that they need one, or add an option to enable the LBM feature in Samba on the Mini 2.

Cheers,

Ray Von

LBC on my NAS has always been OFF. Because it would enable the guest accoutn with no password.

"I don't know whether the Mini can act as a browser master, but if the above isn't an option, try turning on NAS mode on the Mini if it's not on already - enabling SMB sharing might also enable LBM functionality."

Doesnt anyone from the staff knows? And what does it mean?... That the mini could takeover the task? And when I turn SAMBA on in the MINI it doesnt show the WORKGROUP.. it just enables for me to use the MINI as a SAMBA 'device' on other devices.
A NAS option in The Mini? Ill have to look at that some other time. Dont know that.

But why did i never had this problem? It happend just suddently after a full re-update... (which could mean its a setting i missed in the menu, but i think i tried every option.)

*Addition:

http://ukdl.synology.com/ftp/ds/usergui ... er_eng.pdf

Enable Local Master Browser
Enable Synology DiskStation to be the Local Master Browser.
Note: Enabling this function will disable the HDD hibernation mechanism and activate the guest account without password.

I always had hibernation on... I even saw the message "starting up NAS" on the MINI because of that.

And my NAS is the local master when there is no PC present. When there is a PC present in workgroup, the pc will be the local master...
But the mini just cant find it... not even the samba service running on my NAS... But my SamsungTV can? Thats weird right?

I hope you can give some more advice after these "explanations".

Can you try enabling it temporarily, it'll show you where the problem is?

Here's a guide which explains how workgroup browsing works in fairly straightforward language, and why you need a master browser.

I know Samba supports LBM (though I've seen it work less than perfectly in true Windows workgroups, due to election issues), the question really is has it been disabled on the Mini for some reason, and how do we turn it on?

I'm pretty sure the "Starting up NAS" message on the Mini is the local NAS service starting, not because it's bringing your NAS out of hibernation.

Can you just confirm - with a PC turned on, the Mini can browse the network OK? With it turned off, it can't? I'd say that shows pretty clearly that the NAS isn't acting as a browser master.

You can almost certainly ignore that the TV can see it, I don't think your TV is browsing the Workgroup, far more likely it's using DLNA or UPNP which are completely different methods of communication and have their own methods of announcing their presence.

That could be another useful test though - if you go into the UPNP browser on the Mini can you see the NAS in there?

We really need comment from AC Ryan support regarding LBM requirements.

I will test it all, just dont have the time now.

But the weird thing in this, is that i havent had to put that option on, in my nas, ever. Even if it fix the problem. Its not the solution i want. I want my nas to get in hibernation... like it always did from te start.

And upnp doesnt work either. Thats the weird stuff... it should find that at least. Dont you think? If my tv can...
