Post NAS connection drops after few minutes
When i try to copy a files from/to the POHD, the network connection to the device drops after a few minutes and windows report the file connot be accessed anymore. Also the network drive is unavailable from that moment and a reboot of the pohd is required.

It is now impossible to copy files to and from the pohd! All network wired and latest update running. Cannot recall when this problem started,

Any advice??

If copying files over your network is really essential for you, revert to firmware 4824. Firmware 3966 and higher have issues with the SAMBA server and client, causing the connection to drop when copying large files. Streaming with the newer firmware releases is no problem, however.

Post Re: NAS connection drops after few minutes
I have the same problem with the network connection dropping. Not just with copying large files (> 8G), but also with copying a large number of files.
And no, that is not the same thing. ;)

I am running release 5440,so if it was fixed in 4824 it appears to be broken again.

It happens both copying across the file system, as through FTP.
I tried both DHCP and fixed address, same result.

It appears that my POHD forgets about its networking obligations when its under stress. The most annoying part is that the only way to kick it back in/on line is by bouncing the whole damn box.

I am using one of those powerline network adapters to connect the POHD to the router. I am willing to take that into consideration, but remember its the POHD I have to bounce, not the adapter. Anyway, last week they installed my fiberglass modem (maybe some time in the next three months they'll hook it up too), so that's a great excuse to pull some wires to the tv area and rule out the adapters once and for all.

In the mean time, it would be great if a network(adapter) reset would become available in a future release. Better yet, if the damn thing would occasionally verify it is still listening to the rest of the world, and take appropriate action on its own, that would be even better.

Firmware releases 4824 and 5440 are based on different SDKs (software development kit) from Realtek and thus 5440 is not a further development of 4824.
It seems that the garbage collection of 5440 is not working correctly and that one or more buffers are not flushed.
I only encountered the problem with large movie files (appr. 8 GB), but copying some 500 photos of about 5 to 8 MB in one batch was no problem.
The problem has been acknowledged by AC Ryan, but the solution has to come from Realtek, becasue the SDKs are not open source.

I doubt if your powerline adapters are causing the problem. Your connection may not be as fast as over an ordinary LAN cable, but that should be all.

Hmm I guess I got something of the same problem but a little different.

I can copy anything to my playonHd, browse it's contents but when I try to stream or copy files to my pc the nas server seems to crash. after rebooting the playon I have acces again.

Will also try to revert firmware and post the results.

Post Re: NAS connection drops after few minutes
Well, this is becoming an interesting experience

I installed the 4824 version, no problems. But now Samba has vanished and I can't access the NAS anymore from my Windows file system. FTP works fine.

In my network setup I have the following options:

Wired Lan Setup : On (fixed IP)
Wireless Setup: Off
PPPoE Setup: Off (who needs that??)
NAS Mode: On
BT: Off (never worked for me)
Login Control: Off (no clue what this does. Turning it on had no noticable effect)
Host Name: ****
Remote Control: On (Is this the infamous web GUI? Doesn't seem to do much of anything. Or is this the new code name for Samba?)
FTP: On

What am I missing here?
I also have some unrelated issues, but I'll stick to the thread's topic.

In 4824 SAMBA is called NAS mode.
