Hello Playon!HD2 owners!

We are happy to announce our new beta firmware.
Below you will find links to download this new firmware together with the change log and instructions on how to install this firmware.

The reason we have did not release this as a official release, but rather a beta release, is due to the known issues that are still present. We have improved the firmware in various fields and feel that this release sorts many of the highly requested issues that have been reported. Thanks for all the feedback we have received based from our previous firmware!

The flashing Procedures: We have 2x separate ways to flash your firmware. We strongly recommend you to use the ‘Safe-Mode method’ when it’s the first time you install this new firmware.

Safe-Mode method (*recommended!):
1. Download and extract the .zip file into the root folder of a USB-stick. Make sure the USB-stick is formatted to FAT32.
2. Insert the USB-stick to your player.
3. Shutdown the player.
4. Press and hold down the power button in front of the player for 15 seconds.
5. Your player will restart and install the new firmware.

System update method:
1. Download and extract the .zip file into the root folder of a USB-stick. Make sure the USB-stick is formatted to FAT32.
2. Insert the USB-stick to your player.
3. Go to Setup>Misc>USB Upgrade and press 'Enter' on your remote control to confirm.
4. Your player will restart and install the new firmware.

!!DO NOT POWER OFF THE UNIT WHILE FLASHING! THIS MIGHT CAUSE DAMAGE AND RESULT IN DEFECT HARDWARE!

- Multiple SRT subtitles for a video, naming the desired subtitle file the same as the video name will
make it the default subtitle during playback
Example;
If you have 'Avatar.mkv' video and 'Avatar.srt', 'Avatar.dutch.srt', 'Avatar.german.srt', etc
Avatar.srt will be the default subtitle
If you prefer to have other subtitle as the default subtitle, just rename that to 'Avatar.srt'
- Only subtitles that are relevant to the video being played will be displayed and selectable
Example;
If you have 'Avatar.mkv' and 'Iron Man.mkv' together with 'Avatar.srt' and 'Iron Man.srt' subtitles in
a single folder
When playing 'Avatar.mkv' and pressing the subtitle button will only display and let you select
'Avatar.srt'. 'Iron Man.srt' will not be seen as a selectable subtitle
6. Added audio setting that can be directly accessed when pressing the MENU button during audio/video playback
7. Added 'Show all files' option in SETUP - SYSTEM menu to provide users the flexibility of manipulating files
that are otherwise filtered out by the system as non-media types

Known issues/high priority to fix:

GUI/Interface file copy using Samba network protocol = If you use the GUI/Interface with Samba network protocol to copy a file/folder to your local storage. The system will reboot.

Workaround to transfer files: You can use FTP, NFS, Neighbor web, or the Samba PC environment (drag and drop) to transfer files if you want to use the network to transfer files. You can naturally also use the USB-slave function to copy larger amount of files quicker directly from your PC/Mac.

If you enable 'Setup>System>Scan Storage' your system might crash depending on the files you have scanned, and create a corrupted '.Theater' folder, or if you then enter 'Movies' or 'Music' sections from the main menu, and change the view or filter (by pressing 'Menu') the system will reboot. If you would encounter this issue, you would have to manually delete the '.Theater' folder by connecting the Playon!'s hard drive to your PC/Mac and remove the '.Theater' folder from the root of your hard drive. Then boot the Playon! with your TV, and go to 'Setup>System>Restore default Yes'.

Finally a new release? But is the interface any quicker? and does the remote work?

My question is that when copying files from usb storage to internal HDD, will it still cause a reboot loop?

Also is the system responsiveness any better?

So, I tried it Since 4585 I have problems with external USB case unmount.
When I shut down HD2, the external USB cases (Revoltec, quite good quality) don't go to "suspend" park my HDD. With 4858 everything OK. I'm afraid of killing HDDs, so I have to put back v4858.

Have anybody idea for this problem???

The new firm solved subtitle issues, and fix the position and size. It's very comfortable and very good.
I can't verify anything because my big problem still lives

Good things :
-Feels faster in menu's
-subtitles are working fine for me, but always did (only 1 upto 3 in a map) and i always named them the same as the movie file was called. It now even takes external first before wrong languages inside the .mkv ! very nice ! i've set the subtitle 'ON' in 'MISC'
-mkv with DTS playes fine thru my receiver -towards tv (i use: HDMI passthru)
-picture of mkv looks great


Problems :
-skipping thru pictures and going to another map, lets it reboot
-Fast forward 4x/8x/16x/32x in movies (.mkv) still only double speed


Still have to test:
- the copying of large (10GB files)over USB3 connection cable which sometimes lets it reboot, nothing to copy yet.

I specially registered on this forum to post my thoughts about the new firmware.

In short:
Good work!

Longer version:
- The menu works a bit snappier, which is nice!
- The shortcut option is the first option in the menu (which is easy since it's the only option I use).
- It's a big plus that the device now supports more than 15 SRT's in one folder.

I don't use allot of features (like NAS, USB or anything), it only has to play passtrough audio trough coax and stream 720p/1080p MKV's off the network.

It works fine and i'm (still) a very happy user!

I can't telnet into the the HD2 anymore with this version, while I could with the previous firmware version.
