So what your actually saying is that you installed the latest firmware, inserted the 2TB hard drive and formatted it, but then you took it out and put it into another usb case and copied all your movies etc to the hard drive then put the hard drive back into the HD2 ??

If this is the case (no pun lol) why didn't you just connect the HD2 up to the computer and copy the files over that way cutting out the external usb case that you used ??

off... I have HDD init problem with the r3966. Less as with the 2988, but it have problems.
---
I managed to "destroy" the HDD and it had problems. Because ot the HDD problems the HD2's gone crazy and started to rebooting sequence... (no the sleep-park during boot) I turn it off and refresh 3 times the r3966. It didn't solve the problem.
So, I pull out the HDD, connect to PC, and after a checkdisk it was good.
It solved my rebooting sequence problem.

I had updated the firmware on my new HD2 player, with the r3966.
then switched off the player - plugged in my brand new 2TB hard drive and switch player back on.
it then asked me to format, which i said YES and formated it.

now i copied movies etc's on the new 2TB drive. took it out of my external case and inseted into the HD2 player (when it was switched off) .

Switched it on and guess what, it does NOT PICK UP THE 2TB HDD.
goto File Explorer (or wotever its called) and shows no Hard Drive. :? :? :? :?

I formatted it in the HD2 player so i dont know whats the issue.

Someone please help.

thank you

Hahaha.

Well, welcome to the club.

So, if you are having the same problem like I do, in order to get your hard disk recognized you will need to telnet to your HD2 box, and login as root.

Once you're in a root shell, issue "reboot" command and wait for player to restart.

When it restarts, you should (hopefully) see the HDD as recognized and it will be reported on the main screen.

P.S: Before you do "reboot", could you please issue "dmesg" command and paste the output which you get?

Exactly what i did.

i forgot the cables @ home and i had my external case @ work so transferred data via external case.

frustrating thinking of all the time wasted copying everything.

I'm pretty sure thats why I've never taken the hard drive out of the HD or HD2. I can understand your fustration as I was the same when I had to copy just under 1TB of media from the HD1 to 2 hard drives and then format the 1TB hard drive in the HD2 and copy the media back only to decide to get a 2TB hard drive and do it all again lol.

I flashed with the latest firmware under safe mode and then put the hard drive into the HD2 and formatted it. But due to the hard drive being 2TB it takes a few secs for it to be seen. But if it doesnt see the hard drive, you have to put it into a computer and delete any partitions that have been made so it acts like a brand new hard drive. Then put it back into the HD2 and let it format it. This should solve the problem, but if not I'd recommend using a Samsung hard drive as I've had problems in the past with Maxtor, Seagate & WD's unless they are connected via USB for some reason.

Hope this helps.

changing the subject..

and I'm not sure if this has been reported and I have not got time to email.

youTube audio does not appear to work through the coaxial out? i have it set to passthrough and can only get audio if i take it directly from the TV? any ideas?

I have a Rotel processor and assume it would be able to handle youtube audio formats?

Second issue: screen saver only works on 2 minutes (not 5 minutes) and not at all on the home page? (other times not tested)
