Gregiboy,

If it is known from day 1 that 7716 is a peace of crap, why advice people to switch to 7716 anyhow?
You are using people as guinea pigs then.. for your own good instead of helping them.
And when i'm clearly talking on a HD2 forum and get the reaction that it is not a mini..
Well, I'm a little bit lost then after spending a lot of time, thinking that i was getting help.
As stated earlier, Be honest and just say that the NTFS problem is not solved, and advice people to stay with an older version of firmware.

Post r7716 - Slide show does not work
When installing beta firmware r7716, the automatic slide show does not work any more. Setting the slide timer of 2 s, 5 s, 10 s, or more: the player does not show the next slides. Pressing START, STOP or whatever button does not change this either. After re-installing r7317, it works again.
Is this problem typical for my player? Or is something wrong with the test method of Ryan?
Up to now I did not notice any improvements of the r7716 firmware (see my reply of 2012-04-22).

Regards, Arman

Obviously you do not understand that this is a forum staffed mainly by unpaid volunteers with NO commercial ties to AC Ryan.

If you would have taken the time to do a little research on the firmware before installing it, you would have found all the comments.

In actual fact, I think I commented in one of my posts that the firmware was a POS! (Piece Of Sh1t) and this was within 24 hours of it being released. Also do not forget that the firmware is labelled as a BETA with all the provisos that nomenclature brings.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing!!!

Agreed, but proper testing is a wonderful thing as well. So far I'm not impressed with the QC of the firmwares. If the beta is not good, take it from the server before people mess up their files. At least communicate the known bugs.

I have been using this beta software for nearly 2 month now and "ntfs" driver has not failed.
see my post at the start of this topic

The odd thing here is that there is no "ntfs" driver, but is actually an ufsd driver developed by paragon which is an universal driver for NTFS and HFS+ (apple native disk format).

see http://www.paragon-software.com/technologies/ufsd/index.html.

this is part of the reply I get when issue command mount.
/dev/scsi/host0/bus0/target0/lun0/part1 on /tmp/hdd/volumes/HDD1 type ufsd (rw,nodiratime,nls=utf8,uid=0,gid=0,fmask=0,dmask=0,nocase,force).
/dev/scsi/host0/bus0/target0/lun0/part3 on /tmp/hdd/root type ext3 (rw).
/dev/scsi/host1/bus0/target0/lun0/part1 on /tmp/usbmounts/sdb1 type ufsd (rw,nodiratime,nls=utf8,uid=0,gid=0,fmask=0,dmask=0,force).

SCSI device sda: drive cache: write back
Attached scsi disk sda at scsi0, channel 0, id 0, lun 0
ufsd: sda1 journal started
EXT3 FS on sda3, internal journal

sdb: assuming drive cache: write through
Attached scsi disk sdb at scsi1, channel 0, id 0, lun 0
ufsd: sdb1 without journal.

Where HDD1 is the internal hard disk formatted as HFS+ ,
and sdb1 is a NTFS formatted external disk and they are using the same driver.

The only difference I see is that that for NTFS no journal is used.

OSX cannot read NTFS or Ext3 so this the only way for me to transfer files through the USB (2.0) port.

I have also formatted external hard drives and USB sticks as HFS+ with no problems at all.

I disagree with taken it of the server it is there for testing, that's why it is called beta's and in my case it works good.

However I am concerned about the many replies as to reinstall the software and or remove the .Theater folder.

JR_MAC_Ryan,

This really feels odd, regarding all the reactions on this forum and my own experience.

Many time i transfer large mkv files ( say 25GB) from my USB stick (NTFS) to internal HD (NTFS).
My problems occur direct after transferring or just a some time. ( files get corrupted).
What brand of HD you are using and how did you originally format it?

Gregiboy,

You are right about not understanding that the forum is staffed by unpaid volunteers.
My excuses for that.
You are wrong about no research before installing. I have lived already a whole life this world and i know that there is a bug in every unseen corner.
If you are ignorend hindsight could be somesing wonderful. Have no expectation is more realistic.
At least one may espect progress in newer firmware, even if they are beta releases.
This has noting to do with hindsight. I don't believe in complot theory as well.

The issue remains that this forum is linked to from within ACryan. Why don't we see any offical replies than? Do you moderaters don't have any contact with the ACRyan staff at all?
Can you wright anything down without crosstalk with ACryan?
I've already contacted ACryan directly about this issue and hope they will reply.

Notification and feedback are wonderful tools.

@Snorrowiets
The internal hard disk has been formatted the last time on r7716 and I reformatted the NTFS partition to HFS+

The disks I use are Seagate or Maxtor with parallel interface as external disk.
The internal disk is Maxtor .

The maximum file size I used for transferring has been 7 Gb.

Transferring 25 GB of data from an USB stick must certainly take some time as USB ports are processor intensive and being an embedded device would certainly put some strain on it.

I did some testing transferring from USB external disk to the internal Disk

Well I've got some news
Transferred a 7 Gb iso file through the network to an NTFS formatted disk connected to POHD2 and this appeared be ok.
(Linux) ls
stone.iso

Did a md5 checksum on the original file MD5 (stone.iso) = c53f855f22d90b115bc0e6641ac55abb
Did a md5 checksum on the NTFS formatted disk and md5: stone.iso: Input/output error
caused a restart of the NAS and the file has been deleted.
looked further and the space was still allocated.
df -h
/dev/scsi/host2/bus0/target0/lun0/part1 9.5G 7.9G 1.6G 83% /tmp/usbmounts/sda1

On windows
The movies directory was not found and space was allocated.

So there could be troubles with the mapping to NTFS.

I did a file check on vista and did repaired some errors but space was allocated.
Redid the file check with another option and Vista crashed and my Laptop is not working anymore.
The unit has not been used for years maybe this is just bad luck so I'll have to see if I can fixit.

I' ve also transferred the same file to the HFS+ formatted disk and did a md5 checksum
MD5 (stone.iso) = c53f855f22d90b115bc0e6641ac55abb which is the same as the original file

My problem with NTFS does not occur with big files (25GB) only.
Also small files ( 5G or 500MB) have this problem.
If i play a video from internal HD that runned perfecly a while ago, i notice corruption that i can't brows/move in the video with the left or right arrow buttons.
After copying back the file form internal HD to USB and analyse the video, the file appears to be broken. I.e. parts of the video are damaged.
This already happend many, many times.
Some files becomes corrupted randomly in time. Some others not.
It's NOT the HD, i checked more than one HD.
