Post Only audio and no video
When playing certain MP4, M4V and certain AVI, there is only sound but no video display. No issues with MKV tho.

Im using the older HD mini with the latest firmwares installed

Most probably poorly encoded files is your problem.

It plays and works fine on my laptop with VLC player, but not for the ac ryan. Used to happen in the past for some MKV files

High chance that the video codec of the video files you're playing is not supported by the player. You can use a software to check and a software to re-encode the video.

VLC is very tolerant of poorly encoded files and is no real indication whether it should play on the player.

Could you post the MediaInfo output? Then we would know for sure whether the video track is not supported.
