New Playon!HD2 with Old media center HDD
Hey guys,
Recently purchased a Playon!HD2 and went to put my data HDD in with only music and movies (formatted in NTFS). The player is asking for the HDD to be formatted. Is there any way of getting around this? I don't have the space to store all of my data anywhere else (2TB) while it gets formatted.
Cheers, Angus.

I am sorry, but your hard disk must be formatted (and partitioned) by the Playon. During the formatting process the Playon creates one NTFS partition for your data and two partitions (Linux swap and Ext3) for system use. If a hard disk is present, the device cannot operate without these system partitions as you have already noticed.

Thank you very much for the prompt reply. I am a bit disappointed in this news. I presumed that device just used the HDD as storage. In this case, can I send data (from computer) via Ethernet to the 2TB HDD connected via USB as an external drive? If so, how do I do this?

You can use the drive with your Playon as an external USB drive (in a USB enclosure). If you switch on Samba on your Playon, the drive will be shared in your network. However, I recommend that you copy your data to the drive via a USB connection with your PC. This is not only much faster, but also more reliable, because the NTFS driver of the Playon has some flaws.
