 Re: USB corruption
We are not talking about dot*filenames, but dot*foldernames. As demonstrated before windows explorer don't accept making or changing dot*foldernames. It simple does not allow a leading dot in foldernames... Whatever happens: Creating a .Theater folder on my USB stick with "CMD mkdir .Theater" solves my problem here.

 Re: USB corruption
I formatted a USB stick NTFS, put some 80 media files on it in four folders and created an empty .Theater folder with the MKDIR command in a DOS window. I had my Mini (1) scan the stick (after which the stx.db file in the .Theater folder amounts to 123 kB instead of 80kB when auto scan is turned off), shut down the Mini with the remote and reinserted the USB stick into my PC, where it was recognized without a warning.
I had the warnings about possible disk errors before, but usually ignored them, because a CHKDSK never showed an error.
It seems that creating an empty .Theater in a Windows environment indeed prevents the warning.
I should add that I have enabled swapping on my Mini and that I didn't test the .Theater corruption with swapping disabled.

 Re: USB corruption
Duivels,
There is definitely more going on. Indeed if the .Theater file is generated with "cmd, mkdir" it solves the problem with corrupted USB when mounted in a windows PC after use in POHD2. If I copy files from the USB stick to POHD2 and visa versa it seems still OK. However when I move a file from USB to POHD2 and mount it back into a windows PC the problem is back.. Corrupted stick. ( No real errors however) This indicates that POHD2 is currupting the file structure of NTFS when it removes something from the file system.

 Re: USB corruption
The NTFS issues have been known for quite a while, but a final solution has not been given yet. See http://www.acryan.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=25&t=17472.

 Re: USB corruption
There is a lot of info and talk about GUI1 en GUI2. I can't find this back in the change logs of the firmware. Is there an older firmware version for the POHD2 that does't have the NTFS problem?

 Re: USB corruption
The GUI1 and GUI2 apply to the first models HD and Mini only. The HD2 and Mini2 had the GUI2 firmware from the introduction. The NTFS issue has been present in all Realtek SDKs, so there is no older firmware without and it is not restricted to AC Ryan products. It has only become apparent by the GUI2 firmware, because of the scanning option which involves much more file writes than the GUI1 firmware.

 Re: USB corruption
Duivels,
Thanks for the info. So it's waiting for Realtek (or others) to solve this problem in the SDK. Is Realtek seriously aware of this problem? If so, lets close this topic.

 Re: USB corruption
I have no information as to Realtek's awareness of the problem and willingness to provide an eventual solution. The 7761 beta firmware release for the 2 series should provide the solution, but I do not know: a. if it is the final solution of the NTFS issues indeed; b. if it originates from Realtek or from AC Ryan themselves.
Form discussions elsewhere on the forum it seems that 7716 has new issues.

 Re: USB corruption
Duivels,
I understand that you, as moderator of this forum, do not communicate directly with acryan. How does acryan get there feedback, by reading the topics themselfs? Is it usefull to send them an email directly concerning this issue? This will be my last one cos either i believe we end up in a soap discussion. Whatever, thanks for the feedback.
Regards, Ben (dutch)

 Re: USB corruption
I am a community moderator and not employed by or a proxy of AC Ryan or an intermediary between AC Ryan and members of the forum. My e-mails have as much weight as yours, virtually nil.
However, AC Ryan is aware of the NTFS issue, but to some extent unable to address it, because the Realtek SDKs are closed source and I believe Realtek is not very cooperative.
Topic locked as requested.
