The intention is to.

1 \ the entire network rename to "WORKGROUP"
My computer properties to change the working group)

2 \ preferred all static (fixed IP addresses) to continue.

3 \ all connected devices in the LAN network belong to the same ip range.
the same gateway and
dns same number.

4 \ You share the folders initially without a password

5 \ disable the firewall

6 \ Turn everything once off .Put first the router back on.
wait until it is completely booted.
afterwards, the NAS drive if present
again wait until it is completely booted.
than the PC, again first finish to boot
than expected if the laptop again until it is restarted.
than playonhd.
careful when fully booted does not all at once
be seen.
this can sometimes take a while.

7 \ and see if it works now.
(So first shortcut `s making all the devices you want to see the Playon.
if you do not know what to fill see the end of this tutorial for extra info.

8 \ does it work? First turn the firewall back on.

9 \ works now? Configure firewall until it works

10 \ may now turn to share with password.

11 \ Playon in the workgroup or shortcut `s password below

12 \ see if it works

13 \ does not seek out or turning on the password sharing
not even anywhere rights over shares changed.

checklist above works for all Windows versions.

how `s make shorcut:
to browser
Network
shortcuts
press menu on remote. (Or confirm the new firmwares sdk4.0)
Add
through detail in that screen to the next screen.

label = name of the PC
netuserid = empty
netpassword = empty
domain = WORKGROUP
hostname = "name of device (eg computer room or something)
ipaddress = 192,168 .???.??? (Of course, the IP address of your computer you want to share)
ok then

Check here if your static IP addresses (fixed) out of range
the set dhcp range of router you are.

a dhcp server is a device that all the devices you have connected a
assign an address.
When two devices have the same address you get a conflict.

Well if a router is the dhcp server inside your lan network (local network)
then the router have a outside address
wan is the ip address your ISP's modem assigned.

Now for example in windows the ip address setting
go to network connections. (start or run and then type ncpa.cpl than okay)
Select your network there.
right click and then properties
In the list,
"Internal Protocol version 4 (TCP/IPv4)
Weather features
Select (tick) the following IP address:
Enter here

IP address: 192.168 .???. 100 (ip address pc)
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway: 192.168 .???. 1 (router ip address)

then tick "the following DNS server addresses"

preferred dns server: 192,168 .???. 1 (weather router ip address)

when you fill the alternate dns server address from your ISP or in my case
the IP address of another router in your network.
if you do not know for sure then blank.

Then you can go to advanced,
tab, then wins
Here you put a check mark
Enable LMHOSTS lookup
NetBIOS over TCP / IP

the Playon
Fill in setup
Network
dhcp manually (fixed)

ip: 192,168 .???. 101 (Playon ip address)
Subnet: 255.255.255.0
Gateway: 192,168 .???. 1 (router ip address)
dns: 192,168 .???. 1 (weather router ip address)

do this with all devices that enable you to communicate with the Playon.
you just let other dynamic
will be addressed as an IP address between 192,168 and 192,168 .???. 2 .???. 50 so you never get a conflict.

Caution still want Class A IP numbers?

So for example if:

ip: 10.0 .???. 101 (Playon ip address)
Subnet: 255.0.0.0
Gateway: 10.0 .???. 254 (router ip address)
dns: 10.0 .???. 254 (router ip address again)

use as an example,
subnet mask is 255.0.0.0

the subnet mask is 255.255.255.0 for a Class C network, namely,
eg 192.168.2.1

Note this is not the end of the roadmap,
In the next four or five items,
also describes how to set up your computer,
to share files and communicate with the Playon.

Another tip also read the posts from fellow users
In this topic there are some good additions may be
or answer the same questions
also if you could have.

like this next.

Make sure the folder names,
you tried and the names you give to your shares,
No weird characters have only text
and preferably no capital letters.

So eg no "Video` s "but" video ",

it may happen that you have successfully get the message login
when logging on the PC or NAS via playonhd,
but then no files will be seen
or again to log into the shared folder
and then login will fail.

read this somewhere on the forum,
failure to use the weird characters resolved this.

Edit 16/02/2010: Just a little explanation how you can see which IP addresses you use devices:

for your ip number in the playonhd see the following:

playonhd to go into the setup -> Network -> right top line is wired IP number when you are connected
The second rule would be if your IP number playonhd would be wirelessly connected.
The third line if r2901 is the ip number when you use PPPoE, and we do not.
The fourth line is the host name "playonHD" does not change.
last line is in my samba btpd and (in some firmware Nas and BT) it should be on.

the ip address in your PC under Windows and wireless see here:

Just go into your PC to run enter here "ncpa.cpl" and press enter or ok.
now open your network connections.
Go here on the wireless link, and click your right mouse button.
In the menu that opens select "Status" in the window that opens would include details your IP number must be read.

the ip address in your PC under Windows and wired see here:

Just go into your PC to run enter here "ncpa.cpl" and press enter or ok.
now open your network connections.
Go here on the LAN connection, and click your right mouse button.
In the menu that opens select "Status" in the window that opens would include details your IP number must be read.

if everything is successful you would have network should look like,
except that I use almost all the players here to show that it works:

Attention sharing disks can cause problems.
The best bet is just to share folders.

Success! ;)

Can someone please post an organized and well-detailed version of Network-setup of PlayonHD2 for Windows7? I can hardly make any sense of some of the information here, for example what is this section trying to say:
"
how `s make shorcut:
to browser
Network
shortcuts
press menu on remote. (Or confirm the new firmwares sdk4.0)
Add
through detail in that screen to the next screen
"
?!?
