Ok I thought I might try this on my own, just to findout how bad it is... so here is my result... I have Synology DS410 NAS with 4x2TB disks connected to Asus RT-N56U Gigabit router/switch, than to zyxel Gb switch in my living room and to my mini 2... I connected Seaget External 1TB usb disk to the mini and copied 6184MB MKV file from the NAS to the USB drive conected to the Mini... the final copy time was 21:02 min:s. So it is 39Mb/s far away from 1000Mbit/s all right the USB 2 limitations and such things we have to count with, all right... but still it might be at least double... When I connected the USB to my laptop and copied the over the very same cable I have connected to the mini 2 from the very same NAS to the very same USB drive it took me 4minutes and the speed was simething like 180Mbits and this was due to USB drive limitations I am sure... But come on this is what I would expect from the box... 22MB per sec. is not that much to want from gigabit ethernet port. is it?

Just to finishe this... this is what official page specification says about the HD2 mini: Network - Wired : Gigabit... I just doublechecked that there is nothing about streaming or whatever...

Well, if you reach 22MB/sec transfer speed on youre hd2 mini its not that bad and it surely not slower than 100mbit, since this has a.max of 12.5MB/sec

But i agree that the speed is far below the specs, altough its more then enough bandwith to stream if you reach the 22MB/sec. At that point you can say the transfer speed is indead gigabit standard since its higher then 100mbit ;)

No no,do not get me wrong.22MB/s is what i would love to reach.that is how fast i was able to write to that usb 2.0 harddrive from my laptop connected over the same cable as the mini2. And as i said it is basicly becaus of the usb 2.0 limitations. The speed i reached with mini 2 was 6184MB per 21minutes. Ugly!!!

Normally from my laptop to the NAS I copy 70MB per sec over the very same cable I have the mini connected...

Post Re: Tested Network speed HD2??
I think the network speed is not really the issue. The bottleneck is probably in the part of the system that needs to process the data that comes in through the network.

Still, there are systems out there with lower specs that can handle much more data, so I'm guessing the non-streaming speed can still be improved quite a bit.

Fingers crossed for future firmware upgrades...

The USB 2.0 speed on an external HD is decent.

I would like to use the USB 3.0 connector but it's different from the USB 2.0 one and the cable supplied has the wrong connector on the end that goes into my external HD :(

I'm from Ukraine. Waiting for the player, but when I read reviews about the speed of the network, it led me to the horror. Do producers player is difficult to establish in the player, a full gigabit port, which is a penny?

maximum streaming of an m2ts file with 55mbits per second plays flawless,
on my gigabit network with an wrt320N and all other gigabit components as switches etcetera,

it is on a playonhd pv73100 with an 100Mbit autonegotiation lan port,

so it is possible.
but i had to set all speeds on autonegotiation instead of full or half duplex with any speed,
switch on the upnp option in your router,
switch off the QoS and WMM in your router as well,
plus on the pc i stream from i also switched of the QoS packetplanner for the lan connection,
i use all static adresses.

your and mine network are similar,
so the 5MB/s plus should be capable with your pv73100 as well.
copying from the playonhd to that pc controlled from the player,
even reaches 9MB/s
see my findings and tests on this forum.

copying from playonhd to the pc controlled from the windows machine still gave me 8.25MB/s

so again if 3MB/s is the max you get,
see if tweaking in your router and lan card on your pc increases this some more,

what the speeds are on the new 2 series playonhd`s on te gigabit network,
i also will test the same way and place the results here again.
even if they are what you measured,
stil 7,3MB/s is enough to stream FullHD video with at least Dolby Thruehd on 7.1 channels audio.

plus it seems that streaming will give even a bit higher results then
copying files.

only flaw i found is that with mkv files it is at the max 48mbits/s for streaming on a pv73100,
probably because the processor needs to be doing a bigger job on decoding an mkv then an m2ts file.

these are just some of my findings on a pv73100.

;)

Dirk, I always love to read your messages, as they read and look like a poem ;)

Post Re: Tested Network speed HD2??
haha, thank you Mizitras ;)

in the mean time i tested a bit with the PV73700 in my setup.
and if i copy from the pc to the player i gain a copy speed of 6,4MB/s stable,
with a peak of almost 7.5MB/s.

doing a copy from the player to the pc,
controlled by the pc.
i gain a speed of 10,6MB/s with peaks of 11,95MB/s

i used three files and a BDMV folder per copy session which where :
a 4,6GB (dvd.iso), a file of 7.4GB (avchd file in m2ts),
a file of 19GB (a mkv) and a bdmv folder which contained 30,6GB.

i have yet to do the same test,
controlled from the player itself.

as for the streaming test,
i am at the moment unable to find a file that i can`t stream,
to the player.
as all files play extremely well,
i have several BDMV folders for this purpose,
as for instance the Ambra7.1 which has dolbythruehd 7.1 and DTS HD 7.1
and with the pv73700 it just plays flawless over the network.

i will search the net again to find
the famous birds video`s that had different bitrates in
mkv and m2ts.

i however do have a video with a resolution of 3840x2160 pixels,
and a bitrate of 275Mb
but i had to change it to 215Mb/s to play,
but sadly the video is not shown as the player
can`t handle the resolution,
but it does play it does not give a bit error or anything,
so if someone has a tip for which programm i can use
to make the resolution better but still have a very high bitrate,
please let me know.

i am talking about this file:

i have achieved to let the file play in two way`s,
sadly without video (black) but it streamed,
so here are what i have made of the original till now,
i really would some help here,
to make the resolution to 1920 x1080P so it can really play.

Post Re: Tested Network speed HD2??
I don't care about network streaming speeds. I have an HD and was thinking about buying the HD2 solely to get the 1Gb. I "prepare" all my programs on my PC and just want to copy the results to the HD for later watching. All I want is FAST network transfer speed. So I guess that purchase is off now.
And why do I do it this way ? So that I have TWO copies of everything as a form of backup. Not interested in using USB because it is a pain accessing side mounted slots in my stereo system.
When I first bought the box I thought great. With a wireless N USB adapter access was real easy until I found that snails work faster. So I had to hardwire it but into the 100Mb port it still takes quite a while to transfer stuff especially if you are loking at a couple of bluray movies uncompressed. I don't bother compressing them because there is no need to go through extra steps.
My idea of a useful product is one where all the ports work at close to their rated speed (or similar to what you would expect on a PC). I am guessing that the processor basically cannot handle the full transfer speed.
I love the number of different codecs supported (although I have found a few that don't run so good) but just the network speeds are offputting.

Post Re: Tested Network speed HD2??
Followup
Stupidly I bought an HD2. It's transfer speed is about a TENTH OR LESS than the HD. There is ONLY ONE REASON to buy a media player with an internal hard drive and that is because you want to copy stuff to the HDD first before watching it. The ONLY reason. And the transfer speed is even less. Not remotely interested in directly streaming from my PC which incidently does work okay streaming with no stutters etc. But this isn't what I want. Nor what I anticipated by looking at the specs. If the speed had turned out to be at least the same as the HD it would have been maybe acceptable (although not what I wanted) but it is nothing like that.
I will do a check for later firmware updates to see if that changes anything but if not then it goes back faulty.
