Logon always fails when accessing folders
Hi All,
I know this has been done to death but i am struggling to get this going properly.
I am connect via LAN to my PC running Win7. It connects fine, when i go into file manager, workgroup it sees every shared folder. Some i can then get into and some i cant.
I setup a user for it without a password.
Everytime i try and access one of the folders and enter media in the user field and push ok it fails to log on.
Weird thing is it works for some of the folders and i can stream media from those ok

I've never tried it with the Mini myself, but I've seen other devices which wouldn't authenticate properly with a blank password. Something else that's probably worth trying is turning off password protected sharing temporarily, that'll give a clue as to whether it's permissions on the shares or something wrong with the authentication process. Re: Logon always fails when accessing folders
Yeah i tried one of my normal users and that didnt work either.
None of the shared folders on here require passwords, ive added the user i created specifically for sharing to the folders full control variable.
ok i just tried with my admin user and that worked.
My "media" user has the same permissions and wont work... very strange

Re: Logon always fails when accessing folders
I have a similar issue with my Buffalo NAS, I don't know how to resolve it and Tech support have been, shall we say, SHIT.
I went and bought the iomega ix2 200 and guess what, the same issue. I've come to the conclusion that the mini HD2 is, like yours, heading for the bin. I'm in the process of returning it to the retailer as not fit for purpose.

Re: Logon always fails when accessing folders
Hi, we are sorry that you encounter those login problems. If you enter the username can you check if there is an unused space by default? You will have to press the 'Stop' button to erase it and than enter your username. Due to the space being there by default you will get an incorrect username if you don't erase it first. Besides that login issues are mostly related to your network / windows sharing configuration. There is several how-to's in our forum on how to setup the correct permissions. We tested this here like a 1000 times on different setup's and it works if you setup your configuration right. p.s. It's not always the player to blame best regards,

Re: Logon always fails when accessing folders
Yup, just fixed my problem as well. I had upgraded to 3966 and kept getting login fail to my NAS folders. Was about to downgrade to 2988 which previously worked fine. Anyway, followed this advice and deleted the initial "blank" space on the login name - problem solved! Whoever coded this cr&p should be first up against the wall when the revolution comes
