Post .mkv problem
I encoded a dvd movie to .mkv by using Handbrake 0.9.5.

The movie plays fine on the computer, when fast fordward and so on.

But the Essential cant play when starting fast fordward or press slow.
Once you have pressed fast or slow, you cant stop the speeding, just have to stop the movie.
Cant skip chapters or so.
Plays fine from the beginning.

Here's the mediainfo:

I noticed the same problem. MKVs created with Handbrake 0.9.5 play fine, if started from the beginning. If I fast forward, the MKVs play very fast and without sound.

I tried remuxing with MKVmerge, but without success. Does anybody have a solution?

The .mkv-files plays fine on the computer when using VLC or Windows Media Player.
No problem when skipping chapters or fast forward...

The problem is the Essential.
It plays fine from the beginning, but some .mkv have chapters too...

Any fix for this AC Ryan ??

Nothing yet Bro's as we are still investigating what are the changes in the new version as the older one can work. For the mean time we do suggest to stick with the working version until we can confirm if we can make adjustments or not. :)

When converting dvd to .mkv with latest Handbrake 0.9.5.
- It plays fine on the PC but the chapters arent at the correct timeline, usually 5-10sec before the real cut.
- On the Mini or Essential, it only plays fine from the start,
once you have press fastforward it will never ends.

When converting dvd to .mkv with Handbrake 0.9.4.
- It plays 100% fine on the PC and on the Essential, even fastfordward.
- But theres no chapters included, it has to be a bug on the 0.9.4.

When re-mux a .mkv-file (using mkvmerge 4.4.0), that have been converted from 0.9.5.
- The .mkv have the chapters at the right point, when testing in VLC.
- Still the fastforward is a issue.

When only using mkvmerge 4.4.0.
- It gets error when trying to mux a dvd to .mkv.

So, I think the problem is not the mediaplayer, its the software Handbrake.
If Handbrake 0.9.4 didnt had the chapter issue, it would be all good.

Post Re: .mkv problem
Finally, after hours and hours of converting and testing.

Use Handbrake 0.9.4 to convert dvd to .mkv
Choose "High Profile", the anamorphic will change from strict to loose.
My movie only had one audio-file, it will create a 2nd one, just remove it.
Then just start the encoding (took about 3h for my 1h45min movie)

When finished, the movie plays fine on VLC but the timeline on the chapters are wrong.

Use mkvmerge 4.4.0 to re-mux the .mkv
(takes about 2min)

Now the new .mkv-file is 100% good to go on the PC and the Essential.
Fastfordward and chapter-timeline is good, no problem with anything.

I've got a similar problem, and mux the file again using MKVMerger, the rest of the files are now able to ply fine except for 1, it just stops at a particular point and refuses to move forward on the Essential, but the file plays fine in VLC player.

try using mkvtoolnix 3.2.0 to remux it,

i know it is an older one as the one used,
but it might solve the issue.

;)

does it always work for you?

as i am thinking of upgrading but the 3.2.0 has worked for me in all cases,
although it has his restrictions.

if you say it does the job for you i am confident,
i respect your input greatly.
