TieMichael wrote: Hmm, reading all these comments I really wonder if it makes sense to update the FW. What is really improved? The GUI - of cause, but I have to re-program my Harmony Remote which makes the Playon a little more 'wife-friendly'. Youtube ... I have it running since months, and I'm not sure if I will be able to add new features to the new FW What else is new or better???
And there a few things which become worse: EPG, speed/responsiveness and...
So for me, after waiting for 6 months for a new FW, it's currently a 'no, thank you!' Correct, Because of "dead cat" speed i MUST go back to also BAD FW, but it is at least possible to go trough menus almost like normal...... Turning unit on or try to record something, use of BT, dis-functionality of remote, YAMJ fail, no visible info for program on which You are, EPG, EPG, EPG,... So maybe during 2012 we will have working FW (but who cares, it will be end of life ) Still stunned And afraid that going back with FW will cause additional problems. Disaster

Can't timeshift AV in which is the only way we can use this in South Africa - FAIL... (I reflashed twice and reformatted the drive just in case and still didn't work)
Anyway, I'm off to flash back to old firmware...

Where have you been? We are in the 21st century... We consumers understand that most electronic products these days aren't perfect at release and that's exactly why they are firmware upgradable... Firmware upgrades are supposed to IMPROVE/ADD features and not cripple existing ones... AC Ryan's firmware release is almost always a 'one step forward, two steps back' scenario... I hope you will take back what you have said because obviously AC Ryan is going by that policy, taking their time for a firmware release and when it did come out, apart from the major visual improvements, generally nothing about it is a bonus...

Maybe the battery in your unit is faulty and is reverting to some default time? The battery? Now, that's something I hadn't considered. I'll check it out when I'm at home. Apart from this time issue, I've had no other problems. Speed is a little slow, however. Also, I don't use the Bittorrent client, or YAMJ, so I can't comment on those aspects.

 Re: [Official] Firmware_PV76120_v8.5.x.r3966
Tested but disappointed
1. Schedule recording still prompt to confirm start record when not in standby mode!, ie: watching movie suddenly pop up asking to confirm start recording, this should be totally happen in background. has been reported and accepted as bug to be fix. where is the fix? should we even bother to report BUG?
2. transmission process parity not tune correctly, in fact I believe most of the process parity not been tune and leave it to default. this same performance tuning can be done to others process for better responsiveness. ie:all real time process like GUI should be started using nice -n -15 perhaps (maybe go for highest?) and transmission should be started using nice -n 15? nice command is there why not using it?. Since transmission now under /opt/bin and user can overwrite, I tested following working much better, at least transmission does not cause GUI frozen a. mv /opt/bin/transmission-daemon /opt/bin/transmission-daemon-org b .vi /opt/bin/transmission-daemon -------------------- #!/bin/sh nice -n 15 /opt/bin/transmission-daemon-org $@ ------------------ c. chmod 755 /opt/bin/transmission-daemon d. restart DVR
3. Delete if OK should not prompt, should ONLY prompt when failed
4 .again EPG only one day really make me sick, thinking roll back to older version
5. Schedule recording nice list now, but hard to access, no longer accessible from main menu, schedule recording gone from main menu list. Also missing in schedule recording foot note is current date time, need this for reference while managing the list

With the old GUI you could find movies in you media library alphabetically by pressing the right arrow key and selecting A, B or C etc. Does anybody know how to do this with the new GUI? Kinda sucks when I have over 2000 movies and I have to scroll right thru to get to the movies that start "T".

Use your wireless router to issue a fixed IP address to the box when it requests one via DHCP. I use my router to issue fixed IP addresses to several devices.

I'm using a Linksys wag120n. It doesn't support this function . I've checked this before posting. Thanks for the reply anyway.
